The contact for this website, Doug, is an old, out of touch, terrible business man. I called and emailed with specific concerns about a boat ladder purchase and he was more worried about still making a sale than actually addressing my concerns. When I wanted to return my purchase because it wasn't a fit for our boat he told me that he was charging me a 20% restocking fee on both ladders I ordered and said "there's no such thing as a free lunch". When I asked him why he did not mention this to me when I told him I was planning on purchasing two different sized ladders to see which would fit he said he was just going to eat the cost because he thought I'd keep one. So, instead of helping guide me on which ladder would work best for me in the first place, he figured he'd just screw me over on the back end of the deal. He's a sleazy, lazy business man. Deal with Gr8 White ladders directly instead - the owner is friendly and helpful, I wish I would have just worked with her from the start. ...read more

Rochford Supply

My wife and I recently went to shop at Rochford Supplier of Brooklyn Park, MN and bought 200 yards of their fabric the first trip. Our first sale's rep was Steve, his knowledgeable was remarkable of their products. Our second time for a roll of 220 zippers chain and zipper pulls we were served by different sales person Kevin. He had no clue what he was selling of the zippers. We were looking for zippers size 4.5 ykk brand which is great for our project but he offered different brand at a lower pricing. So we thought that might save us some money to complete our project since we were new to this business. We ask him what is the different between ykk and their brand of zippers-his response was nothing really different beside paying for the brand name, however their brand come with a little wider webbing but the zipper itself was the same. When we got home compare the two zippers their brand was twice as big and brought back for exchange to the correct sizes now he wants 20% restockin ...read more

Zodiac Midwest

This is the second time I have whet to Great American marine for service. The first time was with a 9.9 Johnson outboard. They diagnosed 1 of the 3 issues with the motor and the weekend after it overheated and ruined the engine. I rebuilt it myself and found 2 other issues they missed causing the overheating. Then I brought in a Zodiac Projet 350 to have inspected before I sold it to a potential buyer (Keep in mind they are a zodiac dealer). The service manager John looked over the boat begrudgingly and reported that it was making a “noise”. He was unable or unwilling to diagnose the noise and refused to work on it. There was also a hole in the tubes when I got it back, which was not originally there. I found a screw head in-betweens the fiberglass and the tubes that was not there when I dropped it off. On top of all of that, they have incredibly poor communication. I would strongly recommend not letting them work on our outboard or dingy. ...read more

Manage lakes or pond bottom cleaning tips, tools and equipment

As fall arrives, frustrated lake and pond owners that have spent the summer overwhelmed by weeds, muck and algae decide that now is the time to give up on managing their waterfront and hope that next year will be a much better year. However, if proactive steps are not taken now, there is a good chance thatnext summer will be worse! Now is THE most important time for waterfront maintenance! If you allow the vegetation to die off naturally (or chemically), it will settle to the bottom, create another layer of muckand provide anutrient rich fuelfor algae blooms and next years plant growth. Be proactive and take control by removing the plants mechanically now. Many invasive weeds such aseurasian water-milfoilare self-fragmenting. If they are allowed a natural die-off,they will fragment on their own and are likely to replant in other areasof your waterfront. Future growth of cattails can be dramatically reduced bycutting below the waterline in the late summer. This is not an easy project unless you have the right tools and equipment. Our Aquatic Vegetation Groomer(AVG), Lake Mower(Lake Mower)and WeedShear (Weed Shear)- in that order are capable of getting it done. Lily pads are working very hard at this time of the year to develop a stronger root system to expand their reach further next spring.Removing the pad at this timewill weaken the entire root system. All of our cutting tools work well on lily pads. The bottom muck and organic sediment should also be reduced by raking, WeedRolling or using ourMuck Digester pellets. This effort will reduce future algae and weed growth for years to come. So, if you want toincrease your enjoyment next summer, be proactive and make the commitment rightnow for the future. If you do not have the tools available to accomplish these important tasks, here is another great reasonto consider making the investment into your shoreline right now:We are certain that nearly all of our products will increase in costthis next spring. Some costs have increased substantially and have already been passed on to us and we will need to do so in the spring.  Oh, one last reason to apply your greatest effort right now:summer is not over- why not enjoy your waterfront before fall arrives! Milfoil Pond Lake Weed Cutter:WeedShearsIn Action - reports from the field….Dear Weeders Digest,Received my 2nd cutter from you today (gave my last one to the in-laws so that I could get one of the new ones). Nice job on the improvements! It was great before - didn’t think you could improve on perfection - but you certainly did! This must have been yourencore performance!Anyway, I like theshorterWeed Shearhandle because I figure I can throw it about8 feet furthernow and I do not tire as fast. The fact that thewidth was slightly increasedwas a nice plus too.LighterandWider- very nice!   The option to got to a 9′ reach is appealing for my cattails but I haven’t tried that trick yet.Again, just want to thank you for a job well done on the newV cutter!J.D.   Elgin, IL ...read more
