How to Rent Yachts

Deciding to rent a yacht for a vacation, a special event or even for a weekend getaway is not as hard as you may think.  There are many rental companies that handle this type of rental arrangement, offering yachts of all sizes.  Before you actually set out to rent a yacht, take some time to determine what you need and make sure you know exactly what the rental provides.

Chartering or renting a yacht is a great way to add some spice to a vacation or even to a special event like an anniversary or a birthday.  There are a number of ways to rent yachts for a day, a weekend or even for a period as long as a month or more.  The trick is to know what you want in the yacht, find the right rental company and lock in the best possible price.

1. Determine how long you want to rent the yacht.  Keep in mind that while it may be for a single event such as an intimate anniversary dinner for two or a floating birthday party, there is still the need to be able to access to yacht a day or two before the event and possibly also some time to clean it up after the fun is over.  Factor that into the duration of the rental before approaching any rental or leasing company.

2. Decide how large of a yacht you need.  In some cases, something small and cozy will be fine, while other events may call for something grander.  If in doubt, consult with leasing companies about the number of people who will be at the event and ask for suggestions on yacht size.

3. Ask to see the rental terms and conditions. It is important to know what additional services may be included in the rental price, such as maid service afterward, an authorized pilot to handle the yacht during the event and other incidentals.  If some of the features you want are not included in the basic rental, ask for prices related to those additional services.

4. See the yacht before signing anything.  If possible, visit the marina or pier where the yacht is moored before making a commitment.  If you are renting the boat in anticipation of use during an upcoming trip, always obtain images or possibly even a video of the yacht for your inspection.  Many rental companies are happy to provide those via email or by directing you to a page on a website.

5. Negotiate the terms.  While you may not be able to obtain any price breaks, keep in mind that if your event is during an off season, the rental company may be open to offering a discount off the standard pricing.  If so, then you have more money to devote to the other aspects of the event.  If not, you’ve lost nothing and can still move forward with renting the yacht that is right for your purposes.
