Alamo - Have you toured?

 After touring the Alamo, most people away with a few factoids but still yearn for a better understanding of it's causes and context, especially in relation to the bigger picture - Texas History!  An expert discussion of this will begin with the next blog.  6/10  Early Texans (Texians) were American Mexicans vs. Mexican Americans.  They were invited by the Mexican Government via empresario, Stephen F. Austin, to populate Tejas (Texas).  A means, not unlike the Missions under Spain, to populate the area, and thereby, act as a bulwark against threats to her Northern Territory, Tejas.  Soon: where the problems begin.  6/12   The immigration began 1823.  The response was overwhelming.  In fact, the numbers of immigrants coming into Texas and the rapidity were factors alone that created a concern for the Mexican government. 6/17 Immigrants to Texas (then Mexico), were to swear an oath of allegiance to the Mexican Government and convert to Catholicism.  After that, there were few other requirements.  This is one factor that began to foster a fairly independent climate in Texas. ...read more
