John G Mistler Company

1.0

By Kimberly223

We were grossly disappointed at how our home renovation worked out. We hired John Mistler to act as general contractor of our total renovation. I would be hard pressed to name something that actually went well in working with this man. John Mistler proved to be incredibly disorganized. He scheduled the cabinets to be installed before the flooring was put in despite the fact that we paid extra to have the cabinets upgraded to a taller height. He had sheet rock put up before mechanical inspection was done so it had to be removed. John Mistler showed a total disregard for our budget. He was continually pointing us to highest priced ineffective solution. He made decisions independent of us. Though not discussed or in the contract, it appeared in our bills that he was charging us for his own time to oversee the project in addition to the 20% he was getting on all workers. We measured and ordered a bathtub only to find that he had billed us for 2 hours of his own time to measure for the bath tub. John Mistler appeared to be unaware of the building codes. He said switching toilets from next to the wall to next to the bath tubs would not be an issue; cabinet man said otherwise; He said putting plumbing on exterior walls in shower was fine; plumbing codes said otherwise and we had to build an additional wall and redesign shower after the fact. He told us we could have a marble shower bench; marble fabricator said absolutely not. To each of these he just acted surprised while we were left to pay more. John Mistler's website says he is a TN licensed HVAC contractor. After we failed code for HVAC, the code profession had to educate this contractor on the proper way to do things. John Mister paid no attention to detail. He had his buddy painting our house for 5 straight months for 6-7 days a week, painting with a brush. Despite my husband begging to have the house sprayed. The painting went on while trim was being cut in adjoining rooms. Our walls are littered with saw dust debris and brush bristles. There are several areas where one coat was painted and others where six coats were painted due to lack of organization. Paint trays were left out around the house. To these questions and complaints, we were told we were too critical. It's a million dollar home. Too critical?? John Mistler's gross lack of professionalism was disappointing at best. Near the end of the project, his wife who has absolutely nothing to do with this project and does not work with his business called to demand that we be kinder to her husband. After laying into us, she begged us to keep secret that she had called. John Mistler made several sexual innuendoes as if we were his beer buddies. I was pregnant. It was disgusting. We cannot recommend this man for anything. ...read more

Aperture Construction LLC

I hired Aperture Construction for my tenant build out. It was the worst decision I have ever made and nearly cost me my business. The 30 day project ended up taking six months. The work was very sloppy. When I expressed concerns about the unprofessional workmanship, they told me I was being picky and that my pickiness was the reason for the delays, which was so far from the truth. After the project was finally finished and paid for, I started getting phone calls from multiple subcontractors who wanted to know where their money was. One of them filed a lien against the property. I was almost evicted because of the lien and had to hire an expensive lawyer to deal with the situation. I am still cleaning up messy work and paying legal fees today. ...read more

S & K Paving & Concrete

My experience with this company was the worst experience I have ever had. A promised "three day" job to tear out a crumbling aggregate driveway and front sidewalk, turned into a 5+ week NIGHTMARE! I have never seen such incompetence in a business. The owner, Kermit Whitlow, made excuse after excuse for his men not showing up. When they did show up they did not have the right equipment or what they did have broke or was inadequate for the job. It took over two weeks to break up the existing driveway and then they quit showing up. They left huge \t\nupended pieces of concrete sitting every which way in my\t\ndriveway for days. My husband actually fell trying to navigate his way into the house and broke a rib. When \t\nthey finally poured the new driveway it was disastrous; a \t\nterrible finish, mismatched aggregate, cold joints and a \t\nbrush finished concrete sidewalk that was supposed to be \t\naggregate to match the driveway. Like the other reviewer \t\nsaid, they pay no attention to detail and were very \t\ncareless. They broke sprinkler heads and irrigation pipes \t\nand chipped the edges of my garage floor. Kermit took \t\nthe blame for doing the front sidewalk wrong but tried to shift the blame for the driveway on the \t\nconcrete company.\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n \t\nNeedless to say, the whole driveway and sidewalk had to be ripped out again and the whole no show, inadequate equipment experience began again. Days dragged into weeks and very little was accomplished. My husband would call several times a day to find out where they were and all he got was lip service from Kermit. We finally had to dismiss him from the job and hire a new company to finish tearing out the driveway and complete our job.\t\nThankfully we found someone who knew what they were \t\ndoing and had the right equipment, tools and highly \t\ncompetent workers and a supervisor who stayed on the \t\njob to make sure everything went as planned. I had to put one star on this review but that is saying too much for this \t\ncompany. If you need concrete work, stay clear of this \t\ncompany. I know this review is long but it would be even \t\nlonger if I had to list all of the other problems this company\t\n caused and the extra expenses incurred in order to get \t\nthe job redone. \t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\ndriveway for days and we had to cut through bushes and our lawn to get to the front door. The driveway they finally poured was disastrous; it set up too quickly, cold joints and mismatched aggregate from two loads. The front sidewalk which was supposed to match the driveway aggregate was finished with a plain concrete in a brush finish by mistake. ...read more

I could not believe how rude they were when I called a couple of weeks ago..I wanted an estimate on a simple bathroom door. (which I could probably do myself) They told me to call back. I did and they were VERY RUDE and OVERPRICED! They also said.."if you don't like it..call somebody else." I asked to speak to the owner and his reply was .."This is the owner." They wanted $1200.00 to do this and so I called another company and they came right out to my house charged me $250.00 and were VERY NICE and even did it the same day. It's beautiful! I would not reccommend this company to anyone..THEY ARE VERY RUDE to VERY NICE PEOPLE! ...read more
