Dryer Vent Safety

"The appliance repairman told me to get my dryer vent line cleaned."  I've heard this alot over the years, especially after the customer has already paid for a new heating element since the first one burned itself out.  When you dryer vent line is clogged, at the least your dryer beomes less efficient.  Or the other end of the spectrum, you have a costly house fire.  According to the National Fire Protection Association, the following safety tips should be followed; * Have your dryer installed and serviced by a professional. * Do not use the dryer without a lint filter. * Make sure you clean the lint filter before or aftereach load of laundry.* Remove lint that has collected around the drum. * Rigid or flexible metal venting material should beused to sustain proper air flow and drying time. * Make sure the air exhaust vent pipe is not restrictedand the outdoor vent flap will open when the dryer is operating. Once a year, or more often if you notice that it is taking longer than normal for your clothes to dry, clean lint out of the vent pipe or have a dryer lint removal service do it for you. * Keep dryers in good working order. Gas dryersshould be inspected by a professional to make sure that the gas line and connection are intact and free of leaks. * Make sure the right plug and outlet are used andthat the machine is connected properly. * Follow the manufacturer’s operating instructionsand don’t overload your dryer.*Turn the dryer off if you leave home or when you go to bed.DUCTZ of Charleston can help you with the annual cleaning, repairs or new installation of dryer vent lines.  Call us today at 843-771-2908. For added peace of mind, have the LintAlert Safety Monitor installed to warn you when your dryer vent requires attention. ...read more

DUCTZ of Charleston Goes to Sea...Sort Of

DUCTZ of Charleston had the opportunity and privilege to clean the ventilation and exhaust systems in the housing area aboard the USNS Red Cloud, completing the project on Sunday, January 22nd.  This was the first ship and single largest project to date accomplished this DUCTZ franchise.  It couldn't have been done without assistance from fellow franchise owners; Karl Nilsen, DUCTZ of Spartanburg, Jeff Poore, DUCTZ of Anderson/Greenwood, Wade Patterson, DUCTZ of Asheville and Tim Mozely, DUCTZ of Greater Columbia. The USNS Red Cloud is a large, medium-speed, roll-on/roll-off ship, named after Army Corporal Mitchell Red Cloud, Jr., a Medal of Honor Recipient who was fatally wounded near Chloghyon, Korea.  His heroic actions prevented his company from being overrun by Chinese Communist forces on November 5th, 1950. The 6-day project encompassed 5 levels ranging from the bridge to crew quarters and offices.  It was a busy time for DUCTZ personnel and the ship as well, as they were prepping for their mission...which means we had to be on schedule!  The busy crew was very accommodating to us considering they had their own work to do, off-watch personnel sleeping and just the normal interruption of working in relatively confined spaces.  Must have made a decent impression because we were pretty much ordered to eat dinner in the mess hall the night before we finished!  Calm winds and following seas to the crew of the USNS Red Cloud! What can DUCTZ of Charleston do for you?  Call today, 843-771-2908. ...read more
