I am always amazed when I run into someone and they find out what I do, and their reaction is, "WHY would anyone want to do THAT?" I can only think that they mean why would anyone want to unnecessarily permanently mark their face with a tattoo? And to that, this would be my answer... I have been drawn down an avenue with permanent makeup that I never would have expected, and that is the world of women who are dealing with various illnesses and conditions that would make them consider permanent makeup. I divide these women into 2 groups -- women who can no longer apply their makeup, and women who are missing what every other "normal" woman has, such as eyebrows or eyelashes. These can include women whose vision is failing, or gone, or who have motor coordination illnesses, or even arthritis. And on the latter end, women who are dealing with a hair-stealing disease, such as alopecia, or chemo side-effects. What others "out of the loop" do not realize is that to these women, permanent makeup is so much MORE than a tattoo, and yes, so much more than UNnecessary. For many, makeup is not so much about feeling the prettiest in the room, as about being UNnoticed. They would just like to go about their everyday lives and blend in. Just feel "normal" again. And when permanent makeup is done right, it can have a very soft, natural effect. Since having my eyebrows and my lips done, I have never gone out of the house so much WITHOUT makeup! For other women who are not dealing with such serious issues, often permanent makeup can be a way to free themselves from the daily grind of applying makeup. I like to look at the greater picture in many things, so this is how I look at it: If I can help a woman get even 20 minutes back in her day, what if she used it to have that extra cup of coffee with her husband every morning, or made that extra call to her mom ( or her children)? You never know what good can come of having extra time. Just ask someone who's running out of it...
