I order a book from them on Amazon and it was listed as NEW. The copy we received had it's corners bent in, dust jacket roughed up, it was remainder marked and the whole book is warped/bowed. I don't consider this to be "NEW" by any stretch of the imagination. When I contacted them, they gave me a laughable response. Still having go arounds with these yokels. AVOID this seller and tell your friends to avoid them. ...read more

Feeling the Love...of Halloween

Halloween has its origins based in Ireland, where the Celtics celebrated the end of harvest season. They believed that one day a year the Season of Life met the Season of Death, and the dead walked the earth on this day. Druid priests would attempt to foretell if particular villages would survive, and the general popualtion would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off evil spirits. Gregory III declared the day before this Celtic harvest day All Hallows Day, honoring all saints, and it became known as All Hallow's Eve. When the Puritan's came to America in the 1600's, they wanted nothing to do with Celtic tradtion, but the practice of celebrating what we now know as Halloween, came back into popularity when Irish people, who were suffering from a great potoato famine, immigrated to the United States in the mid 1800's for a better life, bringing their traditions, customs, and folk lore with them. Wearing costumes came back into vogue, and bonfires were replaced with hollowed out gourds, what we know as Jack-o-Lanterns. Trick or treating began as people traveling from house to house, exchanging prayers for the dead for treats, often cakes. I have great specials in Our Book Nook , my online shop.
