by ArlingtonAutoTire.com Fuel saving tires are a green choice when replacing your old warn out tires with new tires! These new types of tires save gas by lowering rolling resistance. Hybrid Vehicle Repairs

More people have been requesting repairs to their Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, and other hybrid electric vehicles than ever before. As these vehicles become more popular and age, they need service and repair. As certified hybrid technicians we are up to the tasks you need.Special electronics, scan tools, equipment, and high voltage training is required to service these vehicles. As you know electricity can be hazardous. The high voltage batteries in hybrid vehicles may contain a range of voltages but all batteries are direct current. Batteries have high discharge capacity so they can send a large amount of current through a circuit quickly. This is necessary in order to supply electric motors found in hybrid vehicles. Many facors affect hybrid vehicle systems life. Corrosion, maintenance, stress, temperature, and general vehicle care all impact longevity and mileage. All mechanical devices require care, when they were engineered they were new in a laboratory. Unforseen conditions present themselves durring a vehicles use that simply can not be accounted for by a manufacturer.Having the correct tires plays a large role in hybrid vehicle life and mileage. Most are equipped with LRR Tires or Low Rolling Resistance Tires. These tires reduce resistance and thereby reduce fuel or energy consumption. In the case of battery only power modes some hybrids are capable of such as the Chevy Volt, the less rolling resistance the longer the battery only travel time will be. When gas is used the same applies. These low rolling resistance tires also work for gas only powered vehicles - check them out, they pay big dividends! We stock all brands of LRR tires atwww.ArlingtonAutoTire.comRecently we have performed some projects on many hybrids. Some you may be familiar with and some are due to unexpected occurences. We regularly replace or rebuild Honda Stick style battery packs with balanced and tested cells. We are in the process of acquiring a set of 8.0ah cells now for a insight to try out, however some hybrid vehicle experts are not sure upgrading will work without further testing. We shall see the results. The GM Saturn Vue Hybrid is a familiar site. It is a lower voltage typre than most others, and uses a light assist mode mostly on the highway. We have had much success with LRR tires, nitrogen, and alignment settings producing 35mpg with this small GM SUV for regular drivers who are not trying to hypermile, most claim they were getting 33 to 34 mpg before the upgrades. Toyota Prius is obviously the most popular hybrid - you see them everywhere! "Me Too"! We have seen our share of repairs on these as well. Some transmissions, electrical issues, and regula rmaintenance items such as leaking water pumps, fluids, lights, etc. The Honda CVT transmissions have had some reliability issues and we have repaired or replaced/rebuilt many. It appears CVT is not taking hard driving well and aggressive drivers should go easy on them. Honda was offering a consumer campaign for some time, however first generation Honda Insights and similar may be out of the period. Contact Honda North America HQ for any questions. We can not comment of manufacturers warranty programs but they are nice people.Recently we were presented with a 2011 KIA Optima Hybrid with a "bad engine" by a local dealer. We were asked to rebuild the engine. The hybrid system needed to be shut down, disconected from the charging/electric motor and removed for inspection. This takes quite a few hours. When removed it was found that one rod cap was broken, but others appear good. This may be a warranty? To be determined. KIA makes a great car these days. Quality and design have taken leaps forward in the past few years. And style too!Diesel is another area we work on here. Many trucks for fleets however we also repair VW TDI, Mercedes, Sprinter, Cummins, Ford Diesel, and GM Duramax Diesel vehicles. We stock the special oils for all of them including the MOBIL ELL Long Life oils with VW Audi 507/507 and MB 229.31 and 229.51 specifications, BMW long life and Sprinter Oils - this oil specification is a 15000 mile oil! Really, its a special product for special engines. We have it and the filters to perform the 15000 mile oil change intervals on these vehicles. We also have the UREA DPF or BLUE TEC fluids for replnishment durring your service. Please see our web site to schedule an appointment. These diesels also require intake manifold cleanings with a special non-flammable non oil based foaming cleaner. The intake cleaning service reduces the carbon buildup on the valves and passages that can cause wear, corrosion, sticking, and damage to seals and guides. It is an important service. Keep us in mind for all your high tch repair needs and tires! See our specialists today! ...read more
