How to Use a Car Audio Graphic Equalizer

The car audio graphic equalizer contains amplifiers or audio filters to produce precise audio control. Each filter is made to correspond with specific frequencies that are adjusted to the listener’s preference. The listener has full control over the vehicles audio, and can make adjustments to compensate for interference from road noise or the vehicles interior.

  • Choose an audio graphic equalizer from the different types and models available. Most equalizers that have graphic displays mounted on the vehicles dash while others may be mounted in the vehicles trunk.

  • Select a good brand equalizer that provides the best service. Some of the top rated brands include Kenwood, Pioneer and Boss.

  • Read the instruction manual that comes with the purchase. For best results, allow a professional to install the equalizer. If you choose to do it yourself, follow the instructions carefully to avoid damaging the cars sound system or speakers.

  • Install the equalizer bearing in mind that the installation process will vary from one type of equalizer to another.

  • Turn on the system and adjust the frequencies to your personal taste. The sound preferences will differ from one individual to the next.

  • Consult the manual when adjusting the equalizer. The process of adjusting differs depending on the specific model. The adjustment should be done a little bit at a time. Boosting the treble improves the sound clarity but too much makes voices sound hollow. Setting the amplifiers too high can blow out the speakers.

  • Keep the settings as constant as possible, for all the music you play. Avoid adjusting the levels for different CDs as doing this frequently could eventually damage the speaker system.
