I recently placed a large order for candy bars. However a sales person messed up my order. Upon discovery I contacted the company within the first hour of picking up my order, and was told that there was nothing that they could do. The rep. stated that the order was amended, however no one informed me or asked what my new choices would be. And when I asked to add to my order, I was told that I would have to purchase another 360 bars and that my existing order cannot be changed. They made the whole process more difficult than it needed to be. I was surprised by the rude customer service representative. I was a Buffalo resident for over 40years and learned about Antoinettes as a child in its original location...and NOT with chocolates but something I will NEVER forget and NEVER found anything close...their special made ice cream cakes!These are truly works of art and so unique and fabulous...the perfect cake for a special occassion..but nothing in this place is not wonderful..the sundaes with the whipped cream SO thick it's almost unreal and of course the handmade chocolates especially the sponge and my personal favorite orange milk chocolates...do NOT miss this place and do try the ice cream cakes it is like none you've ever had anywhere else. ...read more

I recently booked a party at The Chocolate Bar to celebrate a good friend's milestone birthday. The reservations themselves took over a week to make due to the difficulty reaching a manager who could book the event for me. After finally reaching the owner, it was made clear to me that he did not want our group simply taking up seats in the restaurant on a Saturday night. He wanted to ensure that he would make money off of us. I assured him that our group is comprised of women who frequent fine dining establishments and we would be purchasing appetizers, main courses, desserts and drinks. \t\n\t\nWhen we arrived at the restaurant that evening, they had crammed our place settings into one booth and one small round table - for 15 people. These would have been appropriate accommodations for 8 to 10 diners, perhaps..but not a group as large as ours. We were then told that the cake we brought in (again, I booked the event well ahead of time and made it clear that it was a birthday party) could not be served in their establishment, since they serve desserts. If we wanted to eat our cake, we would have to pay a $7/person fee - equaling $105!! A small fee would have been acceptable, but this we found ridiculous. Remember, we estimated spending at least $500 that night as it was. The staff made it clear to us that they would rather lose our business entirely than lower the cake cutting fee. So we left that night, taking our cake, and wallets with us. Had a much nicer evening at Darcy McGees as a result. We own a tree service in Orlando, Florida. My husband went up to New york 3 years ago to help out during there ice storm. He had met the whole family of the company. They now send us a box of chocolates every year at Christmas time. We look forward to this all year. Our four kids know the box when it comes.They say the Best chocolate in the world is here.. Been going to the Chocolate Bar for 2 years, and finally, they have brought in Food to match the Martini's and Deserts. We had the Crab Cakes and Paella and both were excellent, and saw that they have new specials other then salads and sandwiches in the evening. One of the things I miss most about Buffalo is Antoinette's but then I do get my fix ordering by phone or receive my faves for Christmas. If you are lucky to be in the area, visit either location and sit down and have a sundae or ice cream confection of your choice. Theya re all great!. Real whipped cream and their hot fudge is the real deal not the brown sweet sauce that if blindfolded, one would be hard pressed to ID what they were eating. After the sundaes, pick up a few pounds of assorted chocolates, a hunk of Charlie Chaplin and some Sponge Candy (best served chilled). Yummy - got a hot fudge sundae (with whipped cream, of course)! I'm from out of town and this was my second visit to Antoinette's on the Hill. I came to Buffalo several years ago and my host took me for ice cream after a Beef on Weck dinner at Schwabl's. I loved it then, and it was just as good this time. The whole dining experience - from dinner to dessert was a great taste of local Buffalo fare. I'd recommend both of these places to out of towners who are not into chain type dining.
