I called the number listed for the Atlantis Maritime Academy today to ask some questions pertaining to their online course and verify some information that I read online. When the man finally answered the phone (at least 6 or 7 rings) I was greeted with a less than enthusiastic "Hello". That was it ... hello, no introduction or identifying of the school. I continued to ask him to outline the online program. His response to me was "it is all there on the website." I continued to inform him that I read the entire website and that I needed to make sure there were week to week time frames that I needed to meet, etc. He then said "maybe this program is not for you and you may benefit from a classroom session". "If you can't understand the website then you probably will struggle with the class." I proceeded to try to explain what I was trying to ask...he repeated his answers, trying diligently to get me off the phone, pretty much all but calling me an idiot. He also picked up another phone call while on the phone with me, held a brief conversation, all while I was on the line trying to talk to him. He did not even have to courtesy to ask me to hold. I told him I was not appreciating his demeanor, that this is poor customer service for a business hoping for my money. He then proceeded to hang up on me. ...read more

Take you $500.00 and use it toward an actual class or the captain in a box. The teachers are rude and disrespectful. The act like you are taking their time, and annoying them. Hints the fact you paid them for the course. no matter what the type of contact phone or via email they may no may not respond. I am just warning you don't waste you $$$. I work in marine salvage, and in the industry and this course is a joke. The whole course is reading material , and then taking a test over the next chapter that you have no even learned yet. I regret not reading these review before I purchase they are all spot on with the 1 star. ...read more

The only issue I had with the couse was, from time to time, some of the modules were too long. I think they should be mad shorter. Cousre videos were excellent and helpful. The option to download modules on USB drives helped out alot for studying. ...read more

I've been wanting to be a USCG Capt for years. Never had the opportunity until a friend directed me to Atlantis Maritime. I took the 180 day course option. Capt. Ralph is firm but will get you where you need to be to pass. Course very easy if you study.I thought the "how-to" videos inserted into the course modules were extremely helpful and educational. ...read more

Atlantis Maritime Academy fails to follow through with its claims on its website. It claims to prepare the student for the captain’s exam. But even the representative, Ralph, cannot show where the information is to get through the quiz questions, and if you cannot pass the quiz, forget about passing the test. They claim the class it setup to work at your own pace, but fail to mention the 90 day deadline for completion. When questioned on this and other issues Ralph is condescending at best. “Atlantis gave you the correct answer for the USCG question/test is looking for” Was Ralph’s claim, but when pressed he failed to identify the slide the information was on. He dropped my access to the course, then refused to refund the funds paid. The content provided is a Frankenstein, cut and past of other peoples work. Some sections/data dating back to the 70’s. The reviews claim there is access to captains to call for assistance, but Ralph in an email stated “We have no staff onboard that will help you”. This is not a reputable group/individual and I would avoid the hassles and go to a local school for the training. Ralph’s response to this review, “Individuals similar to you will read and stay away.” ...read more

I read the bad reviews and say, not true! The online OUPV course was great. I love the annotation features-the whole course was very neat and professional looking. The audio save a lot of time and effort reading-all in all, an impressive, time-saving program that I plan to use to get my Master 100 Ton. Kudos to Capt. Ralph's development team! - k1000mazal@gmail.com ...read more

I had some extenuating circumstances that did not allow me to complete the course in the allotted time and Captain Ralph was gracious enough to extend my time. I completed the course, took the final exam and must say I learned much more than I ever anticipated. SLPettengill ...read more

These guys are rude, and their course is junk, and all they do is complain about the students taking up too much of their time. They won't respond to emails, they don't want phone calls, and if you have any issues they are your issues. It seems that they don't have the know-how, desire or time to assist students. And the course is fraught with errors, including spelling errors and contradictory info. And the course website crashes pretty often, but you can't email them to complain about it because they say the site doesn't crash. You'd be better off burning $500 than sending it to these guys. ...read more

Words can't describe the agony I had with this company. Even my testing proctor had an extremely negative experience with all personnel involved. I can't begin to list the problems I had. I simply want to say that they would ridicule the students and make them feel like dirt. Their website says their course is easy to follow and they are there to help the student but that is nothing but hype. The laid claim that I fabricated problems and situations and that I should have just shut up and colored. Which I did in the end. I was so tired of them ridiculing me I finally stopped communicating with them unless I absolutely had to. All I can say is, if you are wanting your boat captain's license, look elsewhere. These people are a bunch of clowns. ...read more
