By Jensina Group Interior Design

Recently, my family walked through the village of Clarkston and stopped into The Chocolate Moose. I was amazed by all of the different selections and flavors. We were also pleased to see that Cook's Ice Cream was available closer to home as well. We will be visiting The Chocolate Moose may times this spring/ summer. I would encourage anyone who is a chocolate lover to visit this chocolatier. Stephanie L. Rothrock, ASID, IIDA ...read more

The Chocolate Moose

By The Artful Framer

We ordered little "palettes" from the Chocolate Moose for one of our Art Events. I thought that it was going to be just typical hand made chocolates. I tried piece and was it a "WOW!" The milk chocolate is rich, creamy and delicious! Much better than any other hand made chocolates that I have eaten, I would highly recommend getting Chocolate from the Chocolate Moose for party favors, corporate gifts and events and just for the days when you need a "chocolate fix". HOW THE EASTER BUNNY HOPPED INTO OUR LIVES

Every Easter, as our customers try to select the perfect size chocolate bunny and decide which filled eggs their children will enjoy most, we are asked why these sweet indulgences have become a delicious part of our lives.   In the Christian world,Easteris a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and it is this act that is celebrated by Christians every year onEasterSunday. But there is no mention of theEasterBunny in the Bible, and except for its modern association withEasterthe rabbit has not been a Christian symbol. In the ancient world, the rabbit had long been a symbol of fertility and spring was seen as a time of replenishing and renewal, birth and rebirth, fertility. The Goddess of Fertility in was Eostre and it is from her that our own word forEastercomes. Eostre’s consort was none other than a hare, the animal symbol of fertility. According to some traditions, Eostre cast the hare into the Heavens, creating the constellation we know today as Lepus the Hare and was given the ability to lay eggs once a year.   As Christianity expanded north Christians incorporated these pagan ideas and rituals. When exactly the rabbit first became a major part of these celebrations is unknown. Where is a little bit clearer. The first written mentions of theEasterBunny come fromGermanyin the 15th Century and it was also there that the tradition of makingchocolatebunnies to celebrateEasterbegan during the 1800’s.Before this, however, theEasterBunny had already come to the by German settlers inPennsylvania. Osterhase, as he was called, would lay brightly colored eggs in the special nests made in the caps and bonnets of good children. Over time the tradition grew, and rather than just eggs, Osterhase (or theEasterBunny as he is known today) began to bringchocolateand candies, leaving his treasures in decoratedEasterbaskets.   These practices caught on and are now almost universally practiced as Christians and non-Christians alike look forward toEasteras a celebration of life and family. And theEasterBunny is the central figure. Across the country and around the world children wait eagerly forEasterto find the baskets full of eggs andchocolateleft for them the night before by theEasterBunny. ...read more
