I cannot write enough good things about this store. They carry a very special collection of Judaic items and books. The Judaic is for every time of the year and every occasion in a person’s life. They carry a variety of items for every taste and every budget. The books they carry are from the collective and profound wisdom of the Jewish people and cover an ocean of topics. They carry books in English and in Hebrew and books that run the entire spectrum from books for the scholar to books for the novice. When a person enters this store they enter a rarefied world of learning and beauty that must be savored. And finally, a word about the staff. They are all very kind, understanding and patient people who will go out of their way to help and assist you find exactly what you are looking for. When you go into this store be prepared to spend some time browsing and taking in what this store has to offer. I highly recommend this store. ...read more

PRO Quo Books

4.0

By Mikey Sweetz at Citysearch

This is an update of my original one star review for Pro Quo, which you'll find below in it's unaltered form. I left it there to show where my head was at at the time.\t\n\t\nI ordered a book from these guys on 03/30/12 with Expedited Shipping. It never arrived within the expected window, and no tracking number was available. After reading some of these reviews, I was very firm with Pro Quo about beginning the refund process, which they obliged to with no problem or delay. I had the money back within a few days.\t\n\t\nTHEN THE BOOK ARRIVED on 04/17/12!!! I've notified them so I can pay for it, and I'll be returning the replacement copy I had ordered elsewhere.\t\n\t\nThe good: fast refund and reply, book was actually shipped, pricing was great.\t\n\t\nConstructive criticism: providing a tracking number on Expedited Shipping would've prevent the whole fiasco.\t\n\t\nI was taught to do the right thing, so I can't slam these guys for shipping me the book I ordered, and I definitely won't keep the book without paying for it.\t\n\t\n\t\n(below is my original, angry review from 04/12/12)\t\n------------------------------------------------------------------------\t\n\t\nThese guys are pretty crappy. I don't even live in Baltimore, and I just created an account here to leave this review.\t\n\t\nI ordered an out-of-print book here for $30, because the next cheapest versions were going for over $100. I chose Expedited Shipping, yet never received a tracking number. I waited and waited, 13 days total, and got nothing. \t\n\t\nI contacted them, and asked how they shipped it. The reply was prompt, but odd. They politely said that it should've been here by now, that it was shipped USPS and they didn't have a tracking number. They asked if the address was correct. Then they signed it 'Customer Service - International / Pro Quo Books'.\t\n\t\nHuh? I get emails from Amazon sellers making sure I GOT my stuff where they use their real names. Why can't Pro Quo even give me a name of the person I'm dealing with? Anyway, they also never answered my question - how was it shipped? If it was Expedited, tell me how specifically. I sent a reply asking the question again, and I included links to their Citysearch reviews and Ripoff Report, just so we could skip the deer-in-headlights "I don't know where your package went" act.\t\n\t\nAnyway, I just requested an immediate refund, which appears to be processing as I type this. I just ordered the book from another vendor for $120, which is the next cheapest copy out there. The $30 copy at Pro Quo was just a pipe dream, anyway.\t\n\t\nAnd they still never told me HOW they allegedly shipped it.\t\n\t\nBased on other the reviews I read, this is what I think happened: they probably listed my book years ago from another vendors website, back before its demand skyrocketed (it's an old book on analog synths). Once I ordered the book at their present-day, amazing price, they proceeded to order it from someone else, then discovered that it was now WAY more than when they first listed it. At that point, they probably decided to say they shipped it, leave me waiting, then claim it was "lost by the carrier".\t\n\t\nEither that, or they saw how much the book is, and they're going to try to resell it at the higher price (which I'm going to be watching for - THAT IS A PROMISE, PRO QUO!).\t\n\t\nOr, they mailed an Expedited shipment with no tracking options (which I highly doubt, based on how often they have this "problem").\t\n\t\nEither way, these possibilities range from highly unprofessional to straight-out fraudulent. What's definite is I wasted my time, got my hopes up, and could've missed out on a legit offer elsewhere. I'm glad no one bought the next-cheapest copy while I was waiting for Pro Quo's imaginary one to arrive. \t\n\t\nAnd that money better post to my account, or the law will be involved.\t\n\t\nIt may be futile, but I suggest everyone with similar issues notify Amazon. If enough people do, maybe they'll look into these BS-artists and stop dealing with them. ...read more
