This business is a rip off!! I was charge 10X the amount that I should have been charged and the workmanship is shoddy. There were cost add ons for everything, including screws and nails. And what are you supposed to do? I called BBB but since BK actually did the work I have no rights, even when its all falling apart. Don't be like me, FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO DO YOUR REMODELING. ...read more

Contracted with Bill to do a bathroom conversion in Sept 08, work started in Oct 08 and is still not completed. Bill sat in my dining room and attested to his quality, professionalism and integrity and now will not return calls. He has not delivered several cabinets, additionally toilet was hooked up to hot water and needs to be corrected in addition to other punch list type items. My last conversation with Bill was over 2 weeks ago, he indicated the cabinets would be in the next day and he needed to be paid the remainder on the contract (around $1k) so that he could pay the laborers to install the cabinets. I shared with him that I will happily pay him in full upon full completion of the job and not prior, as the targeted 5 week job per his estimate is now at 5 months. Since that date he now does not answer my calls, I've left messages daily. Hey Bill, if you read this, please give me a call and live up to your word. ...read more

Offered suggestions that actually SAVED me money. LOVE my granite which by the way was so much less than Home Depot. Bill at BK Contracting was GREAT! I'd use again. ...read more

Green Building

Building&Retrofitting Green Homes Part #1   Over the next few weeks we will be discussing green building and other ways of going green around your existing home, I hope this will get you all thinking about how you can help conserve energy and help you save money.   Build to suit your site.Instead of cutting all the trees on your lot, use existing trees and plant new ones for passive solar heating and cooling, drought-resistant plants and adequate drainage systems will also help keep the exterior in line with a green home model.  If building a new home you can position your house and add extra windows so that low-angled rays from the winter sun will flood south-facing rooms, reducing dependence on expensive sources of energy. Investigate the area you live in tolearn about your environment when designing or planning a retrofit for a green home. For example, light-color exteriors the siding will reflect heat from the sun, benefiting homes in warmer regions, and darker exteriors absorb heat for warmth in cold climates. Also don’t forget the roofing material I see this problem everyday people think that black or dark brown asphalt shingles look great but not only do they heat your home excessively during the summer months but they wear out much sooner than a lighter color of the same quality. Remember to always choose your construction materials wisely andbuildwithsustainable woods, recycled, reusable, and durable materials.  As always you should use common sense and proper safety equipment and if  You are not sure about something consult with a professional.   U.S. Green Building Council ...read more
