I had a good time while visiting Book Central. Although I never found the book I was looking for, their staff was quite helpful. You know, in this day and age, not all bookstore staff would gladly lend a hand when you're having a hard time in their store so a great customer service counts a lot. I just hope they can stock more book genres in their shelves. But again, I would recommend this bookstore to my friends living in or visiting the area. ...read more

The Common Core State Standards Initiativewaslaunched more than a year ago by state leadersof the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association for Best Practices. The goal was to make the standards the same across state lines in English language arts and mathematics. The Standardsoutline what material students should learn in each grade level. According to the initiative, the standards "will provide a consistent, clear understanding of what studentsare expected to learn, so that teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them." On November 18, 2010, Alabama became the 40th state to adopt the standards. It is the belief school superintendents that the standardswill bring a level of uniformity across state lines. Each state will know what the other states are doing. Many states agree that their English and mathematics curricula need to be aligned with the standards and assessments, but they want and need a plan of implementation.
