Olaplex Treatment: Facts or Fiction?

Are you wondering the same? Maybe we can clear the air for you. Truth: Olaplex hair treatment has become a household name among frequent “salon-er’s”. And although well known, little is still known as to how it works and its long-term benefits. Truth: Olaplex is a 3-step system. The simple 3-step process includes a patented active ingredient that works on a molecular level to repair broken bonds in the hair caused by chemical (bleach), thermal (flat irons, curling irons) and mechanical damage (constant brushing, braiding, stress). The Beginning: Olaplex #1 This concentrated first salon step rebuilds broken disulfide bonds and begins the process of preventing damage and repairing hair. The patented active ingredient in Olaplex is a compound called bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, which is a “bond multiplier” and begins the process of preventing damage and repairing hair. Pursuing Perfection: Olaplex #2 the second step continues to rebuild and restore any remaining broken bonds ensuring the strongest, shiniest, and healthiest hair possible. Olaplex #2 is not an activator, neutralizer, sealer or conditioner but contains the same active ingredient as Olaplex No.1, however it’s intended to repair any bonds missed by Olaplex No. 1. Perfection: Olaplex #3 is an at-home treatment that reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair, improving its look and feel. This take-home treatment is to be used to keep hair strong and healthy between color treatments at the salon. It has the same identical ingredients as Olaplex #2, however in a slightly lower concentration of the active ingredient, which makes it perfect for the at-home treatment. However, Olaplex #3 is not a conditioner! You will still need to use a conditioner. Truth: Olaplex is repairing each hair strand as a whole (from base to ends). It finds bonds that have been broken down by any means (hair color, chemical straighteners, blow dryers, etc.) and reconnects them both ionically and covalently. Meaning that broken or weak bonds, located anywhere on the hair shaft, are targeted. Truth: Olaplex is for everyone, literally. All hair goes through stress that leads to breakage. Colored, fine full, natural – even extensions. All hair types can benefit from Olaplex! Fiction: Olaplex is not a conditioner. Fiction: Olaplex is NOT A MIRACLE WORKER. If you hair is already badly damaged, that doesn’t mean you can take your jet-black hair to platinum. You (or your stylist) should not push the integrity of your hair if it is already compromised. Truth: Olaplex is a revolutionary tool, but good judgement needs to be used. The history of your hair will be a determining factor as to how far your hair can be pushed! Truth: A thorough consultation with one of Sanctuary’s highly trained Olaplex and color specialist will be able to guide you! Choose Sanctuary Salon & Med Spa as your Olaplex treatment salon! And be sure to check out some of our Olaplex Before and Afters! ...read more

10 Beauty Tips to Breeze through summer

Luxury Facial Treatment Summer is here. You want to spend more time outdoors, soaking up the sun on beaches, poolsides and gardens. You want to take those long drives, enjoying the wind and sun in your face. You want to plan trips to amusement parks with your kids. You want to put away yoursweaters & boots and show off your skin. And of course, you want to skin to look glowing and healthy through it all. Frankly, summers can be harsh on your skin. As heat and humidity rise, oil glands get hyperactive. Oily patches, rashes, pimples, sunburn, roughness, patchiness - they all make an appearance in this season. Here are 10 tips to help you look and feel your best this summer: 1. Prep for summer with a full-body microdermabrasion 2. Take care of your face: splash your face with water 3-4 times a day to keep it clean and hydrated. Use a scrub once a week to get the grime, dust and sweat off but ensure the scrub suits your personal skin type. 3. Use sunscreen: UVA/UVB rays are especially damaging during the summer month when our exposure levels are higher. Sunscreens are a must but get one that soaks into the skin without leaving a white cast orgetting heavy & oily. Apply it twice a day on all the exposed parts. A diet rich in Vitamin C and E could also help reduce the potential for sunburn so tuck into citrus fruits, berries, tomato, nuts, etc. 4. Eyes & lips need care too: The sun can be extremely drying so use a rich lip balm to keep your lips soft and smooth. The delicate skin around the eyes should be given some TLC too - a good eye cream to help prevent wrinkles and some soothing cucumber slices or teabags to cool and moisturize the skin under the eyes. 5. Go minimal on makeup: Your skin needs to breathe in hot and humid weather. Avoid heavy makeup. Swap foundation with a tinted moisturizer and face powder. Use lip balms instead of lipsticks. 6. Exfoliate gently: It helps buff away dead skin cells, lightens sun tan and leaves you feeling refreshed and radiant. Try homemade scrubs or opt for a session at the spa. Either way, your skin will benefit. 7. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Water is literally a life saver in the summer. Both inside and outside. Drink lots of water; take cool showers; splash water on your face; wash hands and feet frequently. It'll keep your pores unclogged, skin hydrated and yourself feeling coooool! 8. Keep up the basic skin care: Follow the usual clean-tone-moisturize routine, even in summer.Although sweating causes open pores and oily secretions, moving in and out of airconditioned areas causes dryness too. Plus the sun's UV rays can cause premature ageing and wrinkles. So if you think about it, sticking to the skincare routine before going to bed is even more important in the summer. 9.Remember hair care: The blazing sun will impact your hair, making it dry and frizzy. Don’t overwash it as this can dry out the natural oils even further. There are a number of sprays containing SPF that you can put on after you wash your hair. This is especially important if your tresses have been chemically treated. 10. Take professional help: Sometimes it makes sense to consult professionals to protect your skin and repair the damage caused by the sun. Don’t always try to do it yourself. Full body scrub, manicure & pedicure, facial mask, hair conditioning, de-tan treatments – such specialized treatments can do wonders for your beauty and wellbeing. At Sanctuary Salon & Med Spa, you'll find thebest hair, body &facial treatments in Orlando. Why are intake forms important at the salon?

With so many options out there, finding the right salon & spa can be daunting. Keep in mind that getting the most out of your experience is what really matters in the end and it should be a relaxing, blissful experience. If it’s your first visit, it can be slightly nerve-wracking not knowing what to expect. Here is some helpful information that can act as a manual to help you make the most of your experience while you’re being pampered! Treatment results are only as good as the intake forms! Intake forms are the gateway to a meaningful dialogue between you and your service provider. They are your insurance policy. Making sure your service provider is aware of your expectations. Yes, it may seem unnecessary, redundant and annoying but very important to your service provider. Every form must be filled out completely and correctly for every single treatment… here’s why. Each client should be treated as a first time client. Even if you have seen your service provider dozens of times… skin, hair and physical condition can change overnight. New medications, stress and changes in your diet are some of the ways things could have changed since your last appointment. That is why it is crucial to fill out forms completely each visit. Date the forms. Without a date, salons have no way of knowing when the service was previously performed. This allows the service provider the information they need to go back and look at a particular treatment and if it met your expectations, as well as your service provider’s. Incomplete health information. Skipped questions or vague answers can have a huge negative effect on your services. Medical information such as doctor’s care, medications may cause adverse reactions (allergies) and could affect how hair and skin will perform and respond. It will also greatly affect the treatment decisions for take home products and home care recommendations. No listed concerns. This is the #1 most important question on your intake form. “What are your concerns and challenges?” Isn’t this why you came for professional services anyway? It’s the gateway to building a long term relationship with your service provider. It lets them know what your expectations are and what you would like to have focused on that day. Bring pictures! If you are thinking of changing your hair color or hairstyle, a selection of pictures showing what you want to achieve is extremely helpful. This way you can engage in the discussion as to whether the hairstyle or color is suitable or may not be practical for your hair type and will allow your service provider to discuss alternatives that may be more attainable. For examples: hairstyles that may suit your face shape more or hair color that is similar but either slightly lighter or darker and may complement your eyes better. If you have a preference. Please let the salon know if there is a specific service provider you prefer. Keep in mind that at peak hours, it may be harder to fulfill your request. Remember to book in advance; if you are a fan of a particular service provider, chances are someone else is as well. No email/phone number. Salons may need to personally communicate with you regarding your service or treatment progression or to let you know of upcoming specials. No signature. When you sign, as well as your service provider, it shows that the two of you have reviewed it together and have a plan of action. Additionally, it gives the service provider permission to proceed with the services you have discussed. Your expectations. Some clients may be kidding but others expect magic! It’s no different than the gym - one spin class does not equal bikini ready. Sharing realistic expectations with your pro enables them to tell you what they can and can’t do for you and the role you probably need to play in reaching your goals. Simply put, the intake form allows your salon & spa to understand your goals and expectations and in turn enables them to make the best decisions based on the information you have provided to them. At Sanctuary Salon & Med Spa, you'll find the best hair, body & facial treatments in Orlando. A leading day spa in Orlando, Fl., Sanctuary's highly qualified team of professionals takes the time to study every client’s personal conditions and understand individual requirements. They then suggest the ideal treatment or service. At Sanctuary, Orlando’s best salon & spa, you’ll be in safe and skillful hands! ARE YOU A HOT TOOL ADDICT?

Blow drying. Curling. Straightening. It’s no secret that hot tools have become an invaluable resource when it comes to taming unruly strands, but excessive heat styling can leave yourhair dry, dull, broken and permanently damaged. Consider giving your hair a day or two off to save the integrity of your hair. But if you are a hot tool addict, you need to take precautionary measures to ensure your hair stays healthy.  It’s important to hydrate and protect strands before using heat tools to ensure that your hair stays strong and looks and feels soft and nourished.  Moisture content is just as important to thehealth and beautyof your hair as it is to your skin. Over applying heat to your hair when it is already dry causes brittleness, breakage, dullness and dryness to the point where hair is stripped of its natural moisture. Consider heat protectant as the hair equivalent of sunscreen for the hair. It will boost your hair’s shine and control frizz. Heat-protectant primers and serums like Schwarzkopf’s OsisUndercoat and Tame Wildwill provide a foundation that will balance out porosity leaving the hair with a flawless surface, long lasting smoothness, shine and softness to the touch. If it burns your fingers, it’s also burning your hair. Heat settings range from 175 to 400+. So always try to go as low as you can in terms of temperature, taking into consideration the thickness of your hair before setting your flat iron temperature. For fine hair, lower temperature settings are best, but nohair thicknessshould use 400 degrees. The trick for using a heat tool is not to leave it in one spot. Constantly keep it moving!  A few of our recommendations are:Flatliner by Osis, this flattening iron serum provides a long lasting flat effect plus humidity protectant andMoroccanoilHeat Styling Protectant which creates a thermal protective shield allowing hair to withstand extreme heat. This vitamin-infused heat protectant also nourishes while preventing breakage and split ends. Both of these are great products which will provide the protection you need to keep you hair healthy! The worst habits in hair styling are mainly about trying too hard to make the hair do things it doesn’t want to do. Unfortunately once damaged, it’s really not possible to fully fix without cutting. For those of you who find themselves in this situation we highly recommend Olaplex. Olaplex’s patented active ingredient works on a molecular level to seek out broken bonds in the hair that are caused by chemical, thermal and mechanical damage. Olaplex’s 3 Step system is designed to restore compromised hair, providing the ultimate breakage insurance. At Sanctuary, thebest hair salon in Orlando, we now also carry Olaplex home maintenance system which includes their Bond Maintenance Shampoo, Conditioner and Hair Perfector. Astop hair salon in Orlando, we have a team of professional stylists who will be happy to discuss with you what products will work best for your hair and lifestyle! ...read more

HYPERPIGMENTATION

What causes hyper-pigmentation? Environmental factors, sun exposure, ultraviolent rays, hormonal changes and some medications can contribute to hyper-pigmentation. Do you see discoloration when you look in the mirror? These can range from freckles, sunspots, age spots, acne scars to melasma and can occur on the face or body at any age. Pigmentation means coloring. Skin pigmentation disorders affect the color of your skin. Your skin gets its color from a pigment called melanins which are made byspecial cells in the skin. When these cells become damaged or unhealthy, it affects melanin production. If your body makes too much melanin, this results in hyper-pigmentation which appears as a dark mark on the surface of the skin. As the summer begins slipping away, you may have notice that with its sunny memories the sun’s damaging rays have left its footprint leaving sunspots, freckles and splotches. If too much sun has taken its toll on your skin, it’s time to get your glow back. Say goodbye to discoloration and hello to flawless skin with fast and simple Laser Skin Pigmentation Treatments. We can customize a plan using the latest technologies to lighten and brighten your skin efficiently, comfortably and fade the appearance of skin imperfections caused by the sun and uneven skin tones. OurLaser Skin Pigmentation Treatmentswork on the neck, decollete’ and are ideal for the face, hands and other parts of the body. How does Laser Pigmentation Removal Work? A wavelength of high energy light, which is converted into heat energy, targets the specific area of pigmentation where the laser is absorbed only by the cells containing the excessive concentration of pigmentation. This causes destruction of the pigmentation while leaving the surrounding tissue undamaged. Benefits of Pigmentation Removal Can minimize and eliminate the appearance of pigmentation Minimize or eliminate sunspots, age spots and freckles  Solve skin discoloration quickly and effectively Treats entire body Safest Skin Pigmentation on the market and cost effective Provides gradual, natural looking improvement Produces long-lasting results Who is it for?  Laser Skin Pigmentationcan be used on most skin types and can treat just a single pesky spot to larger surface areas. How effective is it? You can expect up to 90 percent or higher improvement or potentially even completely clearance in some cases. How long does it last? Typically require a series of treatments for full results and then additional treatments are usually required to maintain results. Physical vs Chemical Sunscreen

Sunscreens…which to choose? First let’s understand how sunscreen works and how its beneficial to the health of your skin. Sunscreens contain UVA and UVB filters that reflect and absorb harmful UV rays, which cause premature skin aging and skin cancer. You know you need to wear it daily, but between physical and chemical sunscreens, how do you know which one is best for your skin type, as all sunscreens are not created equal. These two types of sunscreens which have differences and similarities achieve the same goal and both will do a great job protecting your skin when applied correctly, however there are pros and cons to either one. Chemical Sunscreens: Chemical Sunscreens, also referred to as organic sunscreens work by absorbing the suns UV rays. They are lightweight and easily absorbed, without leaving white residue; however need to be applied 20 minutes before sun exposure to ensure complete UV coverage. PROS: Skin is protected from the full spectrum of UVA rays Offers more coverage from UVB rays Colorless Tends to be thinner and easy to apply. CONS: Not immediately effective. Can possibly cause an increase in existing brown spots and discoloration due to a higher internal skin temperature. (Over heated skin can make brown spots worse, such as melasma) Increased change of irritation and stinging (for those who have dry skin with a damaged moisture barrier) due to themultliple ingredients combined in order to achieve broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. The higher SPF, the higher the risk of irritation for sensitive skin. Must reapply frequently Increased chance of redness for rosaccea-prone skin types May clog pores for oily skin Can cause stinging if it drips into the eyes from sweat Overall, chemical sunscreens work great to protect the skin from the sun, but possibly causing damage due to it creating free radicals. Physical Sunscreens: Physical sunscreens are classified as an inorganic (mineral) sunblock and work by deflecting UV rays from the skin. Physical sunscreens contain active mineral ingredients, such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, which work by sitting on top of the skin to deflect and scatter damaging UVA rays away from the skin and are referred to as physical blockers. PROS: Offers protection against both UVA and UVB rays and is naturally broad spectrum Effective immediately after application, no wait needed. Last longer when in direct UV light Less likely to cause irritation to sensitive skin Better for those with heat-activated skin (those with rosaccea and redness), as it deflects the heat and energy given off by the sun away from the skin Less likely to close pores, making it ideal for blemish prone skin types Sun does not degrade physical sunscreen Safe for babies and during pregnancy Longer shelf life CONS: Needs frequent reapplication when outdoors as needed May leave a white-ish cast on the skin for medium to dark skin tones. (However, most Physical Sunscreens now come in tinted formulas and will accommodate all skin tones) Tends to be thicker and may require more effort to rub in Overall physical sunscreens may be a better option, as unlike chemical sunscreens, physical sunscreens do not cause damage to the skin. This alone may be a reason enough to choose physical sunscreen over chemical sunscreen.Physical and chemical sunscreens have pros and cons. Depending on your skincare needs will determine which sunscreen is right for your skin. Please make your consultation with one of our professional skin care professions at Sanctuary Salon & Med Spa so they can assist you with your skin care needs in choosing the sunscreen that will best for you. ...read more

YOU CAN STOP YOUR HAIR LOSS TODAY!

For many years it was believed thathair losswas a distinctly male problem, so much so that hair loss in women was seldom discussed. However forty percent of the estimated 56 million people suffering from hair loss in the United States are women and the phenomenon can be particularly devastating for them with profound emotional and psychological effects.                 There are a variety of reasons men and women lose hair: Heredity Hormones Stress Poor diet Chemical hair services Medications Surgery Hair loss caused by nutrient deficiency or stress is typically temporary if the underlying problems are addressed. Sometimes the cause is a combination of factors. While some maylose hairdue to a mix of stress or medications, others may be a result of hormones and heredity. However, both male and female pattern hair loss appear to have a genetic component. The most common type of hair loss, Androgenetic alopecia, affects both men and women and is better known as male and female pattern baldness. For years it was thought that androgenetic alopecia was caused by the predominance of the male hormone, testosterone, which women also have in trace amounts. But while testosterone is at the core of the balding process, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the real enemy. Testosterone converts to DHT. It is found that DHT binds to receptors inhair follicles, shrinking the follicles making it impossible for healthy hair to survive and rather than causing the hair to fall out, DHT actually restricts the follicles ability to produce hair growth. First timer’s guide to Chemical Peels

Although the word 'peel' may sound scary, conjuring images of raw, red, painful skin, chemical peelsare not so harmful in reality. Chemical peels are the ultimate do-over. They exfoliate deeper than face scrubs while addressing various skin issues. What is a chemical peel? A chemical solution is applied to the skin which makes it blister and eventually peel off. How many layers are removed depends on the intensity of the peel. After a healing period, theskinis left feeling softer, smoother, and less wrinkled. Which skin problems do chemical peels address? Chemical peels are usually done on the face, neck and hands and can be used to: reduce fine lines around the mouth and eyes reduce age/liver spots, freckles and dark patches due to meds or pregnancy treat wrinkles caused by aging treat certain types of acne treat hyper pigmentation, rough skin and scaly patches improve appearance of scars, and areas damaged by the sun Chemical peels do not work on severe wrinkles, skin sags and bulges. How are chemical peels done? You can get achemical peelin a medispa, doctor's office or in a surgery center. Before the peel, the skin is cleaned thoroughly. The chemical solution (usually a liquid or paste) is then applied to the skin with a small brush. The chemical is left on the skin for several minutes. Water or alcohol may be used to neutralize the acid and end the chemical reaction, and then it is wiped off. You may feel a little burning while the chemical is on your skin, followed by a stinging sensation. Putting cool compresses on the skin may ease that stinging. You may need pain medication during or after a deeper peel. What are the types of chemical peels? Each peel is different and the exact formula depends on the intensity level. Superficial peels are the mildest type and can be used on all skin types. Superficial peels usually use liquid containing a mild (dilute) acid, most often glycolic acid. Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) is sometimes used. Medium peels penetrate the skin more deeply and cause a second-degree burn of the skin. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is the main peeling agent used for medium peels, though the peel may also be done in several steps using a different chemical solution followed by TCA. Deep peels are used only on the face, and use a chemical called phenol. It penetrates several layers of skin and causes a second-degree burn of the skin. They Deep Peels are not recommended for darker skin types, because they bleach the skin, causing hypo-pigmentation. What happens after the peel? A reaction similar to sunburn follows - varying in intensity depending on the type of peel. Redness followed by scaling that ends between three to seven days. Medium-depth peels may leave your skin swollen with blisters that may break, crust, discolor and peel off over a period of seven to fourteen days. The sun must be avoided for several months after a chemical peel as the new skin will be delicate and extremely sensitive. Good skin care is essential after a chemical peel. Unfailing use of sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is mandatory. Avoid facials and using anti-aging products soon after as both can irritate the new skin. At Sanctuary Salon & Med Spa, you'll find the bestfacial treatments in Orlando. Keratin Treatment de-mystified

Keratin treatment is a topic that stays trending in the beauty world. You'll meet many who will keep raving about the experience. Some may even suggest it’s not right for your hair. Salons promote it with enthusiasm but the number of in-salon and at-home versions available make it confusing. What does keratin do?          Hair is made up of keratin which is usually lost due to age or chemicals.Keratin treatmentsre-build the damaged areas so you see an increase in shine and silkiness. Frizz reduces and styling becomes a lot easier. What exactly is keratin treatment? The hair is saturated with a keratin formula (something like when you get your hair coloured), then dried with a blow dryer on high heat, and then straightened to lock in the formula. The treatment restores the natural keratin in the hair to create a shiny, frizz-free look. How long will the results last? Keratin treatment is 100 percent formaldehyde-free. But the flip side is it's not quite as powerful as the toxic stuff. It makes your hair more manageable and fuss-free but the effects gradually fade out after a few months. Results to vary from person to person. Someone with really curly hair will get mildly straight ringlets while a person with wavy hair will get straight, polished hair. What to do or not do after keratin treatment? You shouldn't wash yourhair or tieit in a ponytail for at least 2 days. You'll also have to choose shampoos and conditioners that are sulfate-free. A seaside vacation or dips in the pool are not advised as the salt in the ocean and chlorine in the pool water will wash out your keratin treatment. Sanctuary Salon & Med Spa,best hair salon in Orlando, only uses formaldehyde-free organic Keratin. Their special mix of Organic keratin is specially designed to restore, rebuild and rejuvenate your hair, no matter what the style. Strengthen and rebuild your hair and scalp and add sheen and vitality to your tresses. For the bestKeratin Treatment in Orlando, come to Sanctuary, thebest day spain town. ...read more
