After purchasing my '73 Super (my first Bug), I didn't have a clue what to do with the problems it had. The owner, Jay, patiently led me through what I needed to do to get it on the road, reliable and able to stop. After that, and some rather rough treatment with another "know-it-all" shop that was closer to my house, I decided to go to Nu Vintage for everything I needed for my Bug. New and used parts, knowledge on anything/everything possible and what was a good idea (and what ideas were better left on the floor!). I will not go anywhere else, regardless of price, as the advice and friendship from Jay and his guys are worth their weight in gold!. Don't hesitate to call and see what they've got. I have always had spectacular service here. I'm young and don't know much about cars and was looking for someone that would not take advantage of me. Ray offered me all of the information that I needed in order to make an informed decision and worked a long side of me to make sure that I felt comfortable with what was going on. He made me feel like he truly cared about my safety and made sure that I knew that that was his first priority in fixing my car, which really showed when he offered to show me everything he was doing to my vehicle's. I took my car to Johnnie's in Golden. And was greated at the front counter very respectifully. Had the shop fix my car, not only was it one of the most affordable repairs, but the work was great he also checked all the fluids and topped them off under the hood as well as cleaned the battery cables for no extra charge. This business and especially Ray doesn't deserve a one star rating - if this site had a 0 star rating he would get them across the board. No one should be hassled for asking for a receipt let alone be demeaned because that person holds to it and doesn't let some guy try to bully them out of their right to be informed of charges . The fact that he had just typed up the invoice AFTER my dealings with him and how he threw in all those extra items that had nothing to do with what needed to be taken care of to cushion his bid when asked to justify his pricing shows how utterly dishonest he is. Not to mention the fact that he didn't put my car back together despite being paid such a hefty sum to do nothing but assume what may be wrong and not have any definite findings which he should have been able to diagnose if he indeed did a thorough investigation of my car. ...read more

Furthermore, under the needs to be repaired title he put in 14 items that had nothing to do with the original complaint of the way in which the vehicle runs - ranging from replacing the liscence plate light to replacing the muffler hanger. Obviously, he threw in as much as he could to justify his bid to my dad of $800 to replace the radiator. I priced a new radiator at $141 (auto zone) and was told AT MOST it would take an hour and a half to replace. Was told by other mechanics that at most to change the oil, radiator, fluid, thermastat and new radiator cap would cost $200 and labor would at the very most cost $150 - so a $350 dollar job was bid at $800 and only because I demanded he justify his prices did he throw in all the other stuff to fill the gaps in his pricing - which was never discussed to be taken care of in the first place. He hung up on me again. I called back and demanded a receipt. He then told me he was going to call the police and he had phone records showing that I had called several times in the last few minutes - I told him all I'm asking for is a receipt to be faxed. He hung up. My dad went to the shop and called me claiming Ray wouldn't release my vehicle despite being paid already for the repairs. Finally the jerk gave up and typed up an invoice - only for the saturn not for the mazda as well- as my dad was there waiting - which should have been written during the time of diagnostics and coming up with the price he bid for the supposed work to be done. After reviewing the "diagnostics" and for being charged $110.89 for a thorough look at the condition of the vehicle he only can "suggest" what is wrong. there are no definite explaination of what is wrong or what needs to be fixed - it is so vague the adjectives he uses are seems, could, and is likely. to be continued.......... ...read more

I called back and said I just need an itemized receipt which he should have already made up since he already looked at both. He then went off on me telling me I wasn't going to tell him what he needed to give me and again tried to "explain". I told him I wanted it in writing and the invoices would more than explain how he arrived at the prices. He started screaming at me saying that I was a spoiled brat that knows nothing about customer service otherwise I wouldn't be dealing with the situation this way. I said all I want is an itemized receipt faxed over and we didnt' have to speak anymore. He started yelling again about how I was going to listen to him and I said I wasn't he just needed to send the receipts and so he hung up. I called back saying I don't get why this is so hard for you - I just want the receipts. Now for the manor in which this "Christian" deals with his customers...after finding out that this guy is ripping me off I called the shop and asked Ray to send me an itemized receipt for both my mazda and saturn that my dad took into him. He put me on hold then came back and said I didn't deal with you - I said no my dad brought them in but they are my cars and I need receipts showing what he did, what he found and how he arrived at the prices he bid. He then asked if there was a problem and I told him the people I have talked to told me he was ripping me off so I wanted receipts to see how he justified his prices. He then went off demading I tell him the names and phone numbers of who told me that so that he could talk to them. I told him I was not going to do that that I just wanted him to fax me the receipts. Before I realized this guy scammed me I told my dad to take a saturn that I own in to see how much the repair would be to fix it from overheating. So my dad took it to Ray. Supposedly Ray assessed the damage and quoted my dad $800 to replace the radiator. As I started asking around everyone told me this guy is ripping me off. I told my dad not to let him repairs and asked what he was charging me to just look at it - another $110.89! I assummed for that price my car would have been put back into the condition it was brought in as - too much to assume but didn't find that out until today after I paid him and had the car removed. I live in Fort Collins and my mazda died on I25 so my dad suggested I take it to this "great Christian guy" so I told him to go ahead. I was charged $110.89 for him to just look at my vehicle - never gave me an itemized description of the work performed or his findings to justify his claim it would cost $3500 to $4000 to repair the seized motor. Not knowing much about cars took his word for it and told my dad he needed to take it to the junk yard - my dad let Ray take it which of course Ray happily said he'd take care of since he would receive money from the junk yard for the usable parts and the practically brand new tires and rims on the vehicle - yet I was still charged $110.89 and still don't know what that actually went toward.
