We got bed bugs...I think we got them from a hotel we stayed at because the next day we were itching and then we went home...so we spread them into our house. There is not a lot you can do when you get bed bugs except cal an exterminator who can treat them. Fortunately, we got this company who does an excellent job and we cannot thank them enough! Will refer them to everyone in our place. ...read more

What are the benefits of local treatment vs. fumigation?

What are the benefits of local treatment vs. fumigation? Fumigation: PROS      -100% kill of drywood termites               -Stops termites extending into inaccessible areas     -2 year warranty on Drywood Termites  -No chemical odors                  `                                             -No additional damage to walls or ceiling by additional probing to inspect for hidden termitesCONS-Possible plant and roof damage-Occupants must vacate for 3 days 2 nights-Occupants must bag up or remove food, medications, inside plants, fish aquariums, board pets, etc.-May not be practical for multiple unit dwellings-No chemical residuals to continue fighting termite infestation-More expensive that local treatments Local Treatments: PROS-Less expensive than fumigation-No need to vacate the property-No need to bag up or remove food, medications, inside plants fish aquariums, board pets, etc.-Reduced risk of plant and roof damage-More practical for multiple unit dwellings-Leaves a residual behind in areas treated to continue fighting termite infestation-1 year warranty for areas treated CONS-Only kills termites in areas treated-Temporary odor in areas treated-May involve opening walls to expose infestation How often should I have my home inspected?-Since your home is probably the largest investment you will make, an annual inspection is recommended.  Saddleback Termite Control offers annual service programs. When should I fumigate my home?-Fumigations are recommended when Drywood Termite infestations extend into inaccessible areas that are impractical to open for a further inspection or treatment, or when there are just too many infestations on a property to cost effectively locally treat it. If I fumigate my house how long will the termites stay away?-Termites swarm every year, so it is possible to have termites infest your home again at any time, even immediately after fumigation. When should I locally treat my home?-Local treatments are generally recommended when Drywood Termite infestations are in visible and accessible areas.  In the event that termites may be extending into inaccessible areas, a recommendation to open the area to perform an additional inspection and treatment may be made.  If a fumigation recommendation is made as a “Primary Recommendation” the owner may still choose to have the local treatment performed as a “Secondary Recommendation” in lieu of the fumigation. Will fumigation solve my subterranean Termites problem?-Fumigation will not solve your Subterranean Termite problem.  Since Subterranean Termites live under ground, it is necessary to use various methods of soil treatment. How do you fix fungus damage?-In very minor situations, fungus damage / dry rot can be scraped out and treated with a fungicide. The area can then be filled with wood filler and painted.  In more severe cases, the fungus damaged / dry rotted wood must be removed and replaced with new material.  More importantly, the moisture condition that created the fungus should be corrected if practical. Do termite inspectors only look for termites?-No.  “Termite Inspectors” are trained to identify all wood destroying pests and organisms including wood destroying fungus, wood destroying beetles, wood destroying ants and wood destroying bees. What are Section 1 and Section 2 items?-Section 1 on the report are items that are already a problem with regard to termites, fungus / dry rot, wood destroying ants, bees, and beetles.  Section 2 on the report are items deemed likely to lead to an infection or infestation such as faulty grades, excessive moisture from a plumbing leak, water stains, earth to wood contacts, etc. _____________________________________________________________________________________ http://www.saddlebacktermite.com We provide pest control services to the following areas/cities: Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Irvine, Anaheim, Aliso Viejo, Tustin, Yorba Linda, Los Alamitos, Lake Forest, Orange, Laguna Hills, Dana Point, Fullerton, La Habra, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano, Seal Beach, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Fountain Valley, San Clemente, Ladera Ranch, Villa Park, Brea, Anaheim Hills, Santa Ana, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Dana Point, Garden Grove, Placentia, Stanton, Tustin, Westminster, Balboa Island, Capistrano Beach, Monarch Beach, Foothill Ranch, Mesa Verde, Nellie Gail, Dove Canyon, Northwood, Talega, Coto de Caza, Woodbridge, Las Flores, Trabuco Canyon, Rancho Viejo ...read more

10 Tips to Help Prevent Termite and Fungus Damage

Tips to help prevent termite and fungus damage 1.         Have an annual inspection performed by a licensed professional. There is nothing available to stop termites or fungus from invading your home.  Detection is the key to protection. 2.         Keep all exterior wood protected with a good quality primer and paint.Primer and paint will help seal the wood from invasion by termites and moisture. 3.         Caulk and seal exterior wood cracks, crevices and corners.Exposures to elements (i.e. hot, cold, wet and dry weather) can cause wood to split or warp creating separations     at corners making it easier for termites and moisture to penetrate this area.  4.         Seal cracks in your foundation, stucco and utility openings.Termites can maneuver themselves through the smallest of spaces and create damage for years before showing any outside    evidence.  Ongoing excessive moisture can also get through cracks and crevices and do more damage in a short amount of    time than termites if gone uncorrected. 5.         Install rain gutters in areas of heavy moisture concentration due to rain.Consistent moisture to areas such as windows and doors due to rain run-off can result in expensive repairs and staining. 6.         Keep existing rain gutters and down-spouts clean of dirt and debris.Clogged and backed up rain gutters can result in unnecessary damage by leaking or trapping water against the eave areas. 7.         Keep foliage cut back away from your walls and roof.As attractive as it may be, growing vines on or bushes against your home is not a good idea.  This can trap moisture against your siding or window trims causing a condition that could lead to fungus damage.  Trees growing against the roof–line can trap moisture against the eaves and can damage the roof during a heavy rain or wind.  This can also make it more difficult for a trained inspector to correctly determine the presence or absence of termites or fungus.  8.         Do not store fire wood or any scrap wood against or under your home.Fire wood or scrap wood stored directly on the soil can definitely lead to termite infestations that can lead to a infestation in your home.  Even if not directly on the soil, subterranean termites are very persistent and can still manage to find it. 9.         Check your irrigation system to make sure it is not spraying your house.Don’t water your house…It won’t grow.  Sprinklers constantly spraying siding, trims, doors and windows will result in costly repairs and/or replacement.  Redirect sprinklers and adjust pressure to avoid this situation.  Consult a professional or consider other methods of irrigation such as drip systems in areas of concern.  Termites are very opportunistic and can take advantage of damaged areas due to fungus and excessive moisture.  It is also strongly suggested that drip trays be placed under any potted planted that are placed on or near wood such as deck and patio covers. 10.       Avoid faulty grade conditions.Keep exterior planters and slabs from going above the foundation of the house.  Faulty grade conditions give easy access for termites to infest walls undetected and may also allow moisture into wall voids, possibly causing damage to wall framing, drywall and floor coverings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.saddlebacktermite.com Note from Saddleback Termite Control: We provide pest control services to the following areas/cities: Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Irvine, Anaheim, Aliso Viejo, Tustin, Yorba Linda, Los Alamitos, Lake Forest, Orange, Laguna Hills, Dana Point, Fullerton, La Habra, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano, Seal Beach, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Fountain Valley, San Clemente, Ladera Ranch, Villa Park, Brea, Anaheim Hills, Santa Ana, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Dana Point, Garden Grove, Placentia, Stanton, Tustin, Westminster, Balboa Island, Capistrano Beach, Monarch Beach, Foothill Ranch, Mesa Verde, Nellie Gail, Dove Canyon, Northwood, Talega, Coto de Caza, Woodbridge, Las Flores, Trabuco Canyon, Rancho Viejo ...read more

Saddleback Termite Control Blogs on Termites

There are several types of wood destroying pests and organisms in Southern California. If left uncorrected, infections and infestations will result in damage. Termite and Fungus damage on a home is not only unsightly but also potentially dangerous. In many situations, much of the termites and/or fungus on a property can be easily removed from the property just by following the recommendations to have the severely damaged materials removed and replaced with new. Drywood Termites They live in dry, sound wood. One of the common symptoms of drywood termite attack is the accumulation of tiny, straw-colored fecal pellets. These pellets are ejected from the wood. Pellets do not change much over time and they may continue to sift out even after the colony has died. Colonies of drywood termites are relatively small (fewer than 3,000 individuals). Control can be obtained by hole house fumigation or a number of localized treatments. Dampwood Termites This type of termite only infests wood with a high moisture content. Dampwood termites are commonly found in logs, stumps, dead trees and damp or decaying wood.  Infestation in structures usually occurs where wood is in contact with the ground or in areas where there is a moisture problem. Dampwood termites are larger in size then subterranean and drywood termites. Control can be obtained by eliminating the moisture problem. Subterranean Termites These termites live in the soil and come up to infest wood.  In most situations, they have to regularly return to the soil.  Subterranean Termites travel above ground through mud tubes. The mud tubes are built to protect them from drying out and from predators like ants.  The mud tubes are one of the more obvious signs of this type of termite infestation.  Subterranean Termite colonies are much larger than Drywood Termite colonies.  Because of the size of the colonies, these termites can do more damage in a shorter amount of time.  When a Subterranean termite colony matures, they also produce reproductive termites (Swarmers).  These winged termites emerge around Spring time, usually after a rain.     _______________________________________________________________________________________ Saddleback Termite Controlcan help you with all of these termites including fungus and dry rot.  Don't let your investment go bad, protect it and get rid of those termites! http://www.saddlebacktermite.com We provide pest control services to the following areas/cities: Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Irvine, Anaheim, Aliso Viejo, Tustin, Yorba Linda, Los Alamitos, Lake Forest, Orange, Laguna Hills, Dana Point, Fullerton, La Habra, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano, Seal Beach, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Fountain Valley, San Clemente, Ladera Ranch, Villa Park, Brea, Anaheim Hills, Santa Ana, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Dana Point, Garden Grove, Placentia, Stanton, Tustin, Westminster, Balboa Island, Capistrano Beach, Monarch Beach, Foothill Ranch, Mesa Verde, Nellie Gail, Dove Canyon, Northwood, Talega, Coto de Caza, Woodbridge, Las Flores, Trabuco Canyon, Rancho Viejo ...read more
