Best Ways to Control Moles
Most gardeners are completely aware of how much of a headache moles truly are. Not to mention, these animals are considered pestilential creatures. According to reports there are many ways in which to control moles in your yard. The following lists the best ways to control moles.
Some ideas often presented, when discussing mole control, are gas bombs or spreading poisoned peanuts around in gardens. Neither of these methods are effective, as the moles can easily tunnel into the ground to avoid the gas, and they do not eat grain products. This list, however, presents successfully tested methods for controlling moles.
Install buried hardware cloth. You will have to dig a trench that is twelve inches wide and twelve inches deep within the area that the moles were seen to install this cloth. Once you have dug this trench place your hardware cloth in this area and bury it.
Treat the area for soil insects. Implanting milky spores into the soil will eliminate worms. Pesticides will work for all other insects. Doing this will deplete the insects which moles feed on. Using this method in addition to the buried hardware cloth will prevent the moles from tunneling through your garden.
Spray a castor bean based repellent in your garden and the surrounding areas. This form of repellent has been successful in controlling moles in gardens. However, it requires repeat applications.
Use a mole poison. Mole poisons such as Tomcat or Talpirid are fine to use in flowerbeds. They are not, however, recommended for vegetable gardens. Follow the manufacturer's instructions that came with the poison.
