If you were to ask a child to make a wish list of all the gifts they want for Christmas, we all know the list would be longer than most of us could afford to fulfill. We would love for Santas Sleigh to be filled to the brim for our children, but the reality of our current economy may dictate otherwise. Anyone who has had a child may feel they think money grows on trees. Well, I say let’s give them what they want; a money tree. This will serve two purposes. The first; parents will not have to decide which gifts to get them from their never ending list. Secondly, this will make them responsible for buying the items they most wanted or needed. It has been my experience that most children love to have discretionary money to make their own choices. It makes them feel they have control as well as make them responsible for their choices. They have no one to blame but themselves if they do not choose wisely. It’s a teaching tool in many ways. Simply get any miniature tree and the desired amount of dollar bills you can afford to give. They can be ones, fives, tens, or twenties, whatever fits your budget. Now roll, or fold the dollar bills into pretty ribbons and tie them on the tree branches. You can wrap it up in a box so they have a present to unwrap on Christmas morning, or you can leave it under the tree as is.
