If you have Ficus Benjamina Hedges or Trees in the South Florida region this is a very important notice.  For year Ficus Benjamina had no known insect predators that would damage it. Now an insect called Fig Whitefly has been introduced to Miami and then spread rapidly throughout south Florida. So far the Fig Whitefly has only attack the ficus plant, which is the one of the most popular hedge plant in the south Florida area. These whiteflies have a veracious appetite, they can defoliate or even kill a Ficus hedge in a matter of weeks.  With their needle like mouths Whiteflies suck the juices from their host plants causing them to wilt, yellow, shed their leaves and eventually die. There are serveal systemic insecticides that can be used to control the infestation.  Some of the treatment can last up to a year.
