Over the past few days, I have seen several articles posted here on how to take care of mold in certain situations, and invariably every one of them contained inaccurate and even dangerous advice and information.   As with any technical field that requires expertise, if you are going to write a how to article you need to research and get ACCURATE information from reliable sources and not rely on myth, urban legend or what your neighbor told you.
If you want accurate information on how to take care of a mold problem contact a professional who is certified by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) .  There is a reason why many states now require IICRC certification and state licensing to take care of mold issues.   Do you really want to follow the advice in an article you found on line and put your family at risk?Mold is part of our environment, it is in the air around us all the time.   Mold becomes problematic when it is growing in our indoor environment at such levels that it becomes toxic.   You can't "kill" mold be spraying some type of miracle juice or bleach on it.   You can't paint over it and be done with it, and you can't just wash it off of porous surfaces like drywall.    If drywall is affected it has to be removed under contained conditions or you are going to spread it throughout the building and have a bigger problem. The best way to prevent mold?   Keep the humidity in your home to the proper levels.  If you have a water leak have it inspected and mitigated by a certified professional within 48 hours.
