How to Remove Pet Urine From a Rug
When it comes to owning a pet, whether it's a dog or cat, no matter how vigilant you are accidents are bound to happen. When your pet urinates on the carpet or a rug, it is important to remove the urine spot as soon as possible to prevent repeat occurrences, stains and offensive odors.
- Blot up as much of the urine as possible using white paper towels or an old white towel and applying pressure. To avoid damaging the fibers of the rug, do not rub or scrub at the stain.
- Rinse the spot with clean water from a spray bottle. Thoroughly saturate the area.
- Place further paper towels or a dry cloth towel over the area and continue to apply pressure and blot up the water and any remaining stain until the towels come away clean.
- Spray the area with equal parts vinegar and water. Use another clean towel and place it over the spot where the urine was located. Place a heavy object over the towel and leave it overnight.
- Remove the towel the next day and allow the spot to dry.
