How to Buy Books From Publishers
When a certain book is too difficult to find, buying directly from the publisher is a great way to skip the middle man and get exactly what you’re looking for. Buying in bulk for resale or to obtain wholesale pricing are also very good reasons to buy directly from the publisher.
1. Identify and make a list of publishers that you are interested in. This information can be obtained via Internet or the Resource section of your local bookstore.
2. Call or write a letter requesting a complete catalog of book titles published by the particular publisher.
3. Be sure to provide your address so that the catalog can be mailed or emailed to you.
4. Survey the list of titles once the catalog is received and place your order to the publisher. Typically, the publisher will send you an order form with the catalog. If there is an online store, order online for convenience.
5. Don’t get discouraged if a title you want is unavailable. This can happen in cases where these particular books aare in low demand. Your order will then be placed on back order until more of that title can be printed. The publisher will usually notify you of how long this process will take.
6. Realize that if you have a large order it may not arrive to you all at the same time. If some of the items are available immediately, the publisher will ship them to you, as they are available. However, this instance only tends to happen will very larger orders. In the event that it does, there should be a written attachment explaining the delivery.
