Mancino's Pizza & Grinders: Not Your Ordinary Pizza Place

Very interesting place.  We stopped by because we were in Fond du Lac for the day shopping, then just drove around looking for a local place to eat at and saw Mancino's sign, so... what the heck, thought we'd try it.  It's kinda typical "pizza joint" atmosphere I guess.  Big TV w/sports playing but sound wasn't on.  No music.  Weirdly quiet, actually.  Menus on the wall, order by the counter&they; brought the food out to us.We're vegetarians, so we had veggie pizza no cheese add green olives and mild peppers, dinner salads and also tried the meatless stuffed green pepper soup.  The salads were brought to us, but we never told him (and weren't asked) what kind of dressing we wanted.  When he brought them to us the waiter asked if we'd like any dressing, I asked him what kind they had, he said "ranch".  Uh... just ranch?... No, there were others.  We got up and went back to the counter with him so he could show us the boxes of dressings and we could pick out our dressing sacks.  This place is sorta awesome in a "B movie" type way, I tell ya.  I mean that as a compliment, I kinda like weird, quirky places like this as long as the food is good.  They also have a little train that runs around the ceiling of the place, you can turn it on as a customer from a switch by the soda machine.  Another great, weird, creepy thing to make the experience just that much more memorable :)The salads were a bit odd, kinda like eating shredded lettuce that should be on a taco, but they were good enough.  Obviously any place that gives you your dressing in a sack, well... not gonna be too out of the ordinary I guess.  The meatless stuffed green pepper soup was fun to order.  I asked the waiter guy if there was any meat in the meatless green pepper soup, and he went and asked another guy.  That was awesome :)  It was good, very thick, kinda tasted like any stuffed green pepper but maybe with pizza sauce as the base or something and jammed in a cup to make it "soup". ..The pizza was really very good, though.  Crust was nice, cooked well, more than we could eat so we have leftovers... I'd go back again just for the pizza for sure.  There's a place where they store "leftover boxes" by the soda machines, you just go grab your own and cram the stuff in there.  We got the last box today :)All in all I'll give it 3-stars (A-OK).  We'd go back, we had fun, it was just different enough to make it interesting and the pizza was really very good IMO :) ...read more

Some people like to freeze-dry chicken because it can be stored up to a year and it also reduces the weight of the meat.
