I have had many many problems with this service. Trying to talk to a supervisor, to file a complaint is useless. I finally did once, but was given the run around by them and then the state agencies that supposably subcontract/oversee their business. They service the frail, handicapped, elderly and young who are vuleranable and live in poverty. In many cases they are the lifeline for the people they serve. I wonder how many have ended up hospitalized or dead because of their lack of caring and competance. They have an attitude, that they don't care and they don't have to. I am researching this business, the CEO and uppermanagement are very wealthy running a service that won't even pay for a decent call center on hold messinging service. You can barely hear what they say, I wonder how the hard of hearing cope with this. My guess is that's it's contracted via the old boy government system. a very expensive dysfunctional system that does little to nil customer service for the people they serve. Why? they showed up late and while in root to doctors office the dispatcher says if you can't make it there in 10 minutes, I have to cancel for a later date, so we turned around and came back home. NOW I CAN'T GET MY PRESCRIPTIONS FILLED AND I CAN'T get another appt. till NEXT MONTH!!!!!!! AND to top it off. The Driver blamed it on me! New Product Introductions: Speak N Read System: This system is the latest in special needs for the hard of hearing and deaf persons. The world's first and only ultra mobile, hand held voice recognition system that performs as an assistive listening device (ALD) for the extremely hard of hearing and/or profoundly deaf that hearing aids and implants cannot assist. The system is known as "Speak 'n Read" (SNR) and utilizes proprietary software and an ultra-mobile personal computer (UMPC). Computers function under the control of an operating system. The operating system controls all the functions of the computer, input and output devices, and the application. Microsoft Windows XP (or Vista) will not handle all these functions. The Inter-Active Control System (IACS) has to be layered on top of Windows, and interconnected with it, to get the functions to work. The SNR utilizes both the Microsoft XP (or Vista) operating system interconnected with the Interactive Control System (IACS). Voice recognition is "the technology by which sounds, words or phrases spoken by humans are converted into electrical signals, and these signals are transformed into coding patterns to which meaning has been assigned" [ADA90]. While the concept could more generally be called "sound recognition", we focus here on the human voice because we most often and most naturally use our voices to communicate our ideas to others in our immediate surroundings. In the context of a virtual environment, the user would presumably gain the greatest feeling of immersion, or being part of the simulation, if they could use their most common form of communication, the voice. The difficulty in using voice as an input to a computer simulation lies in the fundamental differences between human speech and the more traditional forms of computer input. While computer programs are commonly designed to produce a precise and well-defined response upon receiving the proper (and equally precise) input, the human voice and spoken words are anything but precise. Each human voice is different, and identical words can have different meanings if spoken with different inflections or in different contexts. Several approaches have been tried, with varying degrees of success, to overcome these difficulties. Artificial Intelligence The branch of computer science concerned with making computers behave like humans is called artificial intelligence, or a synthetic brain. It is this proprietary program that makes the "speak 'n Read" system superior to any other voice recognition software on the market. It shortens the time it takes to learn to use the systems and improves the accuracy with use and makes the system a thought processor.
