Dreadlocks for everyone..A new twist on Man's First hairtyle!

It was just a few years back when i remember trying to get a job in Manhattan..my hair was relaxed then. I would see people dressed so professionally and thier dreadlocks were so beautiful..the funny thing was that asfter I got the jobs..I'd never see anyone at the job with dreadlocks. It made me think..I found back thent hat dreadlocks had such a ugly stereotype attatched to them.  It was said that lazy, weed smoking beach bums wore dreads..that they were dirty and unclean. It disgusted me because I knew good, clean hardworking educated people with dreadlocks, and they were not all black either. Now when I look around I see people of all colors with dreads, seniors, babies...I love it!! Scholars, politicians, CEO's I love to see thoer locs because no two sets are the same and it is the perfect way to express your individiality.. Awesome!! Its obvious to me that Man;s first style were dreadlocks because, dread is what the hair does naturally if not kept. Cavemen didn't have combs and clippers..I was not there but I feel that a nice hairdo was not that the to of the cavemen's priority list..so naturally..they had dreadlocks. But you know how people are..we like to forget sometimes...so eventually we began to groom ourselves into nice politically correct clones and left dreadlocks in the back of our mind. Dreadlocks were found on the heads of people from Africa to India and they were viewed as crowns. They still are because noone has a set like yours, people grow so attatched to thier locs because they are original, you have watched them mature and matte up and you love them different that you would a simple strand of your own hair. You are not a sheep or a clone, you are letting your hair do what it does naturally (with a little help from your Loctician) just to make sure they are growing well, they are neat and healthy inside. Just like your doctor you loctcian knows what to check for to make sure that your locs are clean and do not have reside that has hardened within them causing them to mildew. Dreads are coming back wih a vengence and everyone wants them. Even if you are not a fan of them, you must respect thier uniqueness. In my prefect world we will all once again return to an all dreadlocked society when you are free to express yourself through your locs...it's coming soon. As i see people order groceries, food, clothes, gifts, job search, find a soul mate...etc. in the privacy of your home..people no longer want to sit in salons and barber shops for hours every 1-2 weeks... you can now go see your loctician every 3-4 weeks and be out of the salon in less than an hour. Think about it.... Kisha B. - Owner/Master Loctician The Dreadlock Spot Dread Salon 71 Afton Parkway, Portsmouth, VA 23702 ...read more
