I moved to DVCC area in Haymarket, VA just a few months ago after retiring. I'm very pleased with the community, stores, and people, with the exception of Giant Pharmacy in Merchant's View Square. My family and I have had numerous challenges get our prescriptions properly: we regularly get computerized calls saying that "someone in our family has a prescription ready at Giant Pharmacy", on occasion the pill count received didn't match the amount on the bottle; pharmacy takes more than 2 weeks to get a prescription filled and runs through a series of excuses (for example in my most recent case (still not resolved) the excuses were: its out-of-stock, it hasn't arrived yet, doctor didn't respond to fax request, do you have another doctor we could try; that doctor hasn't responded to the "refills expired" request, and then FINALLY, after checking with UHC insurance I get a printed message saying that a pre-auth is required (why Giant didn't tell me over 2 weeks ago, I don't know), so my confidence in hearing the truth from the staff and mgmt at the Giant Pharmacy (#790) is gone. Almost every time I go there, some medication has an issue, they can't find it on the system, the pharmacist isn't available (because they are helping someone in the corner with the bp machine and walk right by me). Several months is plenty of time to shake out the problems of transferring 15 or so of my own prescriptions....although I'll have to drive further, I'll be checking the CVS and Walmart in Haymarket, and others via yelp and neighbor reviews. Traveling 15 minutes more each way to another pharmacy is a better use of my time if they get the prescriptions correct the first time rather than driving back on false alarms based on their call or a computer generated call. ...read more
