El Paso County Sheriff Richard Wiles has made several political comments in the past. He has made controversial statements about the Republican Party and endorsements for Democrat candidates running for public office on local television stations. Should Sheriff Richard Wiles be allowed to make political comments and endorse political candidates running for public office when it's the citizens of Texas who are paying his salary? And should he be allowed to make these statements while in uniform displaying his badge? Sheriff Richard Wiles draws his yearly salary off the backs of the taxpayers. Some of the law abiding tax payers who have been long-standing citizens of El Paso are decent people who have served in the military, raised families, paid their taxes and abided in the law.
