USDA, FDA will face budget cuts.
Republicans are now going to cut budget over agriculture department as well as on food and drug administration to about 14% in coming months. The budget writers have not yet declared that from which departments they are planning to cut off the budget, if the Republicans move forward to roll back the spending to the year 2008 levels, then the most suffering departments will be food safety programs by USDA, FDA and nutrition program for low income women and children. The Senate have to agree to these cuts. Tom Harkin, a member of Senate Committee that controls USDA and FDA budgets. Grant Gustafson, a spokesman said that “ yet he(Harkin) will do all he can to fight unreasonable and damaging cuts to critical food, agriculture and rural programs,” The chairman of the Budget Committee, Rep. Paul Ryan, said the cuts will “restore sanity to a broken budget process and return spending for domestic government agencies to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels.” These budget cuts will bring no good to the cause of food safety in US, after a very long period of time, food sanitation was taken into notice and FDA was working very effectively to restrict food borne diseases.
