Hi, I was looking on Google for a math tutor and found Joe's phone number. Thankfully he was the first one that answered the phone! He started tutoring my son, Michael, in the fall of 2007 after the first 9 weeks. He had a D+ in Geometry. This was completely unacceptable. We sent him for after school tutoring with another math teacher, but his grade got WORSE! I read the reviews about Joe and Advantage Tutoring and I wasn't convinced. No way a tutor could be that good. Michael's math teacher had been doing it for 30 years and couldn't help him! Sure enough Michael's next test grade in Geometry was a B-! We were ecstatic! The teacher even started giving out Joe's number! After Geometry, next was Algebra II and Chemistry for the 2008 school year, and finally Precalculus, Physics, and ACT Prep for 2009. Michael ended with a 3.75 GPA and a 29 on the ACT. He is now at UT Knoxville. We thank Joe for everything he has done for Michael! ...read more

We had Joe working with our son on Algebra I. Jason had always done poorly in math, but always made a C. Last year his first 6 weeks grade was an F. My wife and I knew something had to be done. The next six weeks our son made a 88 which was a B. This was the highest grade Jason had received in math since the 3rd grade! Joseph was able to help Jason in all of his other subjects as well and helped improved all of his grades by teaching him how to study and ask questions in class. Jason ended up with all A's and B's at the end of the year. This was a pretty good for a student who usually made C's. Most importantly Joseph emphasized to Jason the importance of education. He gave him a real world talk on how his performance now would effect not only his GPA, but his performance on the SAT and ACT as well. He did something we never could, motivate our son to want to do well in school. We are thankful for Joseph's hard work and dedication. ...read more

How We Tutor The structure of our tutoring sessions are based on the needs of the student.  For example, if a student is struggling with a class, we Tutor to the Class.  This approach uses the student's grades, notes, book, syllabus, and the teacher's input as our guide for what needs to be covered in the tutoring sessions.  In these tutoring sessions we work with the student on completing homework assignments as platform to teach the content and skills neccessary to do well in the class.  We always aim for our students to make an in their class.  Many times we find that the student is deficient in material from past classes.  We address these issues as needed in order for the student to grasp the material in their current class.   For students that want to 'excel beyond the class', or learn a subject that they are currently not taking a class for, we create a custom syllabus to reach our learning goals. Some subjects we provide tutoring services for include: Math Reading Arithmetic Pre-Algebra Algebra Geometry Precalculus ISEE Test Prep ACT Test Prep PCAT Test Prep MCAT Test Prep Chemistry Physics Biology ...read more
