About Electrician Tech Schools

Electricity is a very important part of our lives and is required to power our homes, businesses and large manufacturing plants. Electricians are needed to establish electricity and help maintain its powers source. From troubleshooting to installation electricians provide a very valuable service.

To work in the electrical industry you must complete an electrician training program from an accredited trade school or college


Requirements


You must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. Good math and English skills are also required along with manual dexterity and good eye coordination. A good work record and military experience will also be a great contribution.


Education


Training to become an electrician will take about four years and will require classroom work as well as apprenticeship. Most students prefer to complete their classroom requirements before taking their apprenticeship or it can be completed together.


During your apprenticeship you will acquire on the job training working with highly experienced electricians in top name companies and even local unions. Your apprenticeship will give you the necessary experience to obtain a job once you are finished with your electrician training. You will be required to take and pass the National Electrical Code test. You will also need to be licensed depending on your location.


Jobs


Electricians can works as supervisors, inspectors and even own their own business. The more experience and education you receive the further you can advance your career.


Salary


The starting salary for an electrician with four years of training is $15 to $20 per hour.
