Martin Brothers Painting was one of five painters that were compared and chosen from when deciding on who to hire for painting the outside of our house. I would highly recommend them. They did an excellent job in not only painting, but also in caulking between the old asbestos siding where needed and pre-cleaning before the paint job. What you should know about stain killing paints( Kilz, ect.). All products are not the sameA oil base covers better than latex most of the time.Oil base products will no longer be available next year.Some smoke satins may require more than one coat.Clean area to be coated if possible so you only have to use one coat of stain killer.Use high quality stain killing primers.Open windows and doors!Were a respirator and goggles or safety glasses.Now you are ready to start the dirty work. Clean the surfaces to be primed if possible with TSP substitute and allow to dry.You may want to get the primer tinted to the color you will be painting. We just had the opportunity to use this fine paint last week. It is not cheap and retail for around $60 a gallon. It goes on smoothly and covers very well. I would still recommend two brushed coats over one thick coat. So if you are trying for a nice looking and long lasting paint job it will take two coats. If you are selling in the near future one coat may be okay!I have been painting for over 30 years and I believe brushing its the only way to go. Unless it is stucco or something that can not easily be brushed. I believe that you get a better looking and longer lasting paint job because more paint is on the surface and not wasted in the air by spraying. I have seen a sprayed house that needs to be repainted in only a year because of the thin paint film. ...read more
