Jackson Bank & Trust

I am a retired Registered Nurse, in nursing home due to multiple sclerosis. I came to Gainesboro where I GREW UP when I became unable to feel comfortable at home due to mobility problems, specifically being unable to transfer safely to my motorized scooter without assistance. I made the decision myself and made the necessary arrangements myself and "CAME HOME" to Jackson County. I worked 3 years as Night Supervisor in a general hospital in my scooter before my retirement. I have had an account at Jackson Bank and Trust, then known as Jackson County Bank, since I was a CHILD. Yesterday I sent the designated shopper for us here to the bank to cash a personalized check for me to get $15 cash so I could pay back some of the caring workers who bought me soft drinks out of the machine - due to the market not having Mello Yello I sent for. My balance was $1231.98 and I DO NOT FEEL GOOD about putting my money where I can't get a few dollars promptly when I want it!! If they doubted the identity of the person and/or intentions, they could phone the nursing home, (or even maybe yell out the door, it is just down the street!).\t\nIt is sad that people are no longer treated with the consideration and courtesy of days gone by!! In 1966 I phoned Paul Birdwell, then bank President, and told him I wanted to buy a 1966 Sting Ray. He told me to "just write a check for it," and that I could "fix the papers next time I came in (for any money I wanted to borrow to help me on my purchase)." I also bought my own house at a young age. I already cancelled my savings account there because if the balance is low, they charge a fee instead of paying interest, that applies to children and senior citizens, I was told when I asked! SAD!! The good part of the day was that FOODLAND cashed the check, so I did get the $1 bills I needed to repay the money and kindness of the nursing personnel, keep my rep. of doing what I say, maintaining dignity, in my accustomed and habitual lifelong manner! : ) ...read more
