How to Write Educational Grants
Getting a grant is one way for schools in need to secure funds in order to continue providing education. The grants are offered by the U.S. government, various foundations and corporations. When provided by the government, grant money never has to be repaid. Educational grants are secured by applying with a grant proposal, which is called “grant writing.”
- Determine what the financial needs
for your project are. Figure out exactly what you need and quantify
it. This is the amount for which you will be requesting a grant. The
project will have to provide an essential benefit. - Locate an appropriate grantor.
This is important in determining how you are going to write the
proposal. The provider of the grant must be interested in funding
your project. This will take research and careful planning of your
proposal. - Contact the grantor for submission
information. You will want to gear the proposal for that grantor. It
should be written and submitted according to their guidelines. - Create an outline of your proposal
for planning purposes. This is helpful in any major writing project.
Your outline will contain all the elements that you will need for
the actual proposal. - Explain the need for your project.
Who will benefit? How will they benefit? In what ways will the
community as a whole gain from the project? You should describe in
detail what the project will accomplish. - State how much money will be
needed to fund your project. - Describe the ways in which you
will use granted funds to fulfill the stated purpose of the project.
What are you going to do with the money? This will call for an
in-depth description of the educational project along with expenses
associated with each step.
