Barb's Skin Care Tips and Tricks for the Holidays - Part 2

Today we are going to talk about the "skin hangover" or better called eye puffiness. We all know that puffy eyelids make you look tired and old. While they are usually temporary. First and foremost, don't fret! Let's look at the puffy eyes phenomena more in detail to figure out what we can to do help. What causes puffy eyes? There are many reasons for this.  Here are some typical ones during the Holidays.  * Even though preventive measures can help, the inevitable"skin hangover"is still bound to occur. During the Holiday, we tend to consume more alcohol, combined with richer, usually saltier foods, plus a lot less sleep, can come together to give you a bloated, puffy look, particularly the day after a night of holiday cheer. * Dehydration, whether from drinking too little water or from a hangover. Either way, the only cure is more water. * Heredity (yes, your genes can influence your susceptibility to puffy eyes!). * Allergies, which may also result in itchiness and redness of the eyes and surrounding tissue.  Because the skin underneath our eyes is so delicate, there are almost too many causes to list. Your best bet in the fight against puff? Treat your eyes like queens. That means getting plenty of rest, and avoiding excessive irritants. Consider the skin around your eyes as you would the skin of a newborn baby, and you'll go a long way toward combating under eye puffiness. So now that you know how it may happen, let's talk about what you can do because you don't have to live with puffy eye syndrome. In fact, if you have puffy eyes it is usually because you retain fluid, the simplest way to reduce puffiness is by drinking more water. There are other tips you can follow to help relieve puffy eyes depending on the cause. Here are a few: It is recommended that your head be elevated while sleeping to help the fluids to drain from your puffy cheeks and eyes. Try SeneGence's EyeCreme. It is a great solution puffiness problem because it has 9 different weighted oils in it and the weight of these oils will actually help to reduce the puffiness. * Try applying some hemorrhoid cream under the thin skin of the eye. This cream contains anti-inflammatory agents that can help alleviate puffy eyes. * Gently tap your skin where puffy, as this can encourage fluid build up to release and drain more easily. * Apply cold compresses to your eyes. Many stores and boutiques sell gel filled eye packs. Stick them in the freezer for a few minutes and apply to your eyes. * Grate some potatoes or place cucumber wedges on your eyes, and lay down for 10 minutes. This may help reduce swelling and help brighten your skin. * Soak a cloth or some nursing pads in cold milk and apply over your eyes for 10 minutes. This will help reduce puffiness and, like above, help brighten dark circles under your eyes. * Drink water until you feel like a water fountain. When you are retaining fluid, you simply can't drink enough water to reduce puffiness. Also avoid beverages with lots of caffeine and bubbly beverages including soda, as these can contribute to edema. * Avoid artificial sweeteners, as these can cause your body to retain more fluid. * Be sure you are getting at least 8 hours of sleep at night, because too little sleep will lead to dark circles and puffiness. * Try an ordinary ice pack. The cold temperature may help reduce swelling. * Always wear UV sunglasses during the day. Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going outside, even on cloudy days. Excessive exposure to the sun or unexpected sunburns often contributes to puffy eyes and leave you feeling bloated the next day. Tips and Tricks to Combat Skin Stress during the Holidays - part 1

It is hard to believe that the holidays are already upon us.   Many of us are already planning to, if not already shopping, cooking, cleaning our homes for our celebrations with family and friends.   As we all know the Holidays are complete with food and drinks and too much to do on too little sleep, all taking place during a somewhat harsh, wintry weather season. The end result - just when you want to look sparkly and terrific, your skin gets the holiday blues. The good news:   Not only are there things you can do right now to ensure your angelic "glow" during this season Barbara Harrington, but there are also some cosmetic tricks and tips to keep your holiday glow going clear into the New Year.    I have put together for you a series of 4 problems and possible solutions help you and your skin get through the Holidays!      I will divide this discussion into 4 parts since I have alot of information for you.      Dark Circles Breakouts Skin Hangover/Eye Puffiness, If Your Skin is looking alittle green.   Problem – Dark Circles:   Skin stress that appears during the holidays, including some dark circles, can be the result of a lack of moisture, particularly if you live in a colder climate and are exposed to indoor heating.  Therefore, you may need to trade up to a richer, more emollient moisturizer, beginning right at the start of the holiday season.   Some Easy Possible Solutions: Increase the moisture level in your skin and start as early in the season as possible.   SeneGence has some terrific products.  If you haven't tried Climate Control, this is a great product to introduce more moisturization to your skin. If your skin is feeling really dry, you may want to switch your "Daytime Moisturizer" for the Nighttime" one.  In addition, SeneGence has just launched this year a Hydration Foundation which I find to be excellent.   Unfortunately, the colors are limited (Dewy, Beige Chiffon, or Café Au Lait).    I then will mix our regular foundations to get the desired color. If your lips need more moisturization, I highly recommend using the glossy gloss more, or the Clear LipVolumizer at night.  I am not a big fan of the colors for this product, but I do like the clear one.   I can't emphasize enough, listen to your skin and this will help you determine what you need to do. To pull attention away from the dark circles, which gives you that sleepy, tired eye during the day look, ….experts say to skip the eyeliner and mascara on the lower lid.  The reason being….it can make puffy eyes look (and feel) worse. To achieve that bright, "I-never-stay-out-all-night" glow,  it has been suggested to bypass the smoky dark eye shadows and choose a peach or champagne color instead.  Gold counteracts redness and brightens darkness, so a champagne or peachy shadow will brighten the eye area and help you avoid a sleepy, tired look.    To achieve this look, I suggest using SeneGence's  ShadowSense Candlelight or BlushSense Peach or a mixture depending on your skin tone.   However, you may be able to achieve the brightness you desire by using your foundation as well.   Our Foundations are exchangeable with our any of the other creamy SenseCosmetics and will definitely keep your color I have many more suggestions, but this is just to start you thinking of the possibilities.    I hope you enjoyed this information. Please call or email me if you need suggestions.  I am very happy to help.
