I've been a decorator/coordinator for the past 10 years and played a role in a recent wedding held at the Holstein House. Not once in my career have I witnessed so much unnecessary stress placed on the wedding party and their family, with the majority of it being caused by Bonnie, The owner/coordinator of the facility. There big selling point is that it is an all inclusive venue (flowers, decorating, set up, clean up, etc) with the primary goal of ""keeping the stress down for the bride and mothers"". I would have to say that this goal was left out for this particular wedding. Weeks before we had asked which flowers we could use and how many, come the day of rehearsal/set up it was as if we had never talked, we had limited use of flowers (to the point that we had to buy our own and bring them in adding expense). Then we had asked her to trim up the rose trees that line the isle for the ceremony (there was only 4 in question) they were misshapen and covered in dead brown blossoms, she ...read more

BRIDZILLAS?! YIKES!

I doublt anyone wants to be a Bridzilla nor intends to be.  Something I have found, however, after hosting and planning weddings for years now, is that the better the family and bride are to work with, the better the wedding can be!  If the bride communicates and delegates, it makes a WORLD of difference in the results the day of the wedding.  The bride that tries to do too much herself is setting herself up for stress and failure.  That too can apply to the mothers and other members of the bridal party such as the over eager Maid of Honor.  The best advice I can give is to communicate your wishes, be flexible, delegate and try not to achieve perfection!  Sublime Thyme Gardens, LLC www.sublimethymegardens.com ...read more
