This is the WORST Safeway I have had the misfortune of experiencing OVER and OVER and OVER again. The only reason I have shopped here is that it is close to my home but after MULTIPLE bad experiences, The cashiers and department clerks are pathetic. The employees in each department are apathetic in assisting you and seem to have no idea about the advertisement signs posted right in front of them. If you ask about anything, be prepared to get the run around. If something is out of stock, no will take the time to find it for you! The line to cash out is ridiculously long. The store is way understaffed. I have waited in line for 30 minutes or so before...day and night. While one employee stands there idly playing with their cell phone, the other is frantically trying to bag groceries for the massive line. Speaking of which, one night a bagger took my dozen eggs and DROPPED them SIDEWAYS into a plastic bag next to A SIX PACK of GLASS BOTTLES. I literally had to ask him what the hell he was doing. He took the eggs out and DROPPED them in another bag. Half my eggs were broken. When I asked him to replace the eggs, he said he would WAIT FOR ME to get them. I walked out.\t\nI have shopped here multiple times later in the evening after leaving work. I work in a bank and wear a NAME TAG with my bank logo on it. I have written multiple checks to this particular Safeway for various amounts and NEVER had a problem. A few months ago after work I went to the store and spent about 2 tedious hours grocery shopping for my family. When finally at the line (and waiting a half an hour), the store clerk refused to accept my check because he said my OREGON STATE DRIVER'S license was SUSPICIOUS? I asked why, he refused to speak with me and got the manager, who was even worse. Instead of telling the employee that nothing was wrong, he defended him so they didn't look like morons. I was so angry at this point but they did nothing to help me and said they would hold my groceries until I brought my debit card. Even after asking them why I have done this several times with the same identification and checks, they refused. Before leaving, I asked for my check back and they said NO!!! I yanked the check right out of the managers hand and told him that as a fraud manager at a bank I WOULD NOT BE LEAVING MY ACCOUNT INFO WITH HIM!!!\t\nBe prepared to be disappointed if you cook homemade meals from scratch. Half of the time they are out of basic foods like cooking wine, basil, and other basics. The produce department looks like a discount bin for rotting food. The bakery is an absolute nightmare. A few weeks ago I bought "gourmet" cupcakes for my nieces birthday party. It was painful to watch my eight year old niece and all her friends TRY to eat these cupcakes. They were hard as a rock and the frosting was so solid it fell right off the "cake". $2 a rock!! \t\nThe last straw for me was going in to get some basic groceries for a meal. I had bought a couple slices of cake from the bakery. The slices were $4 each. Spendy, but it's 95 degrees out and we are not cooking! I open the first box last night and the cake was completely rotten. It tastes like it was made with sour milk. To my chagrin I open the second and the cake was harder than the cupcakes bought a few weeks earlier. Tried to contact the customer service line, no one answers. Was on hold for over ten minutes.\t\nThis is the WORST store I have ever been to. If you feel like getting food poisoning, not having the right ingredients, waiting in line forever, settling for rotten produce, and buying baked goods that will break your teeth for outrageous prices, THIS IS THE STORE FOR YOU! Oh, and when you TRY to pay, they will suspect you of SOMETHING. Also, if you are lucky enough to pay for the crappy food you bought because their selection are TERRIBLE, be prepared to have all of your groceries bagged by someone who is BLIND. ...read more
