We were really disgusted with this guy. We're committed to using local merchants and businessmen. He seemed like a nice enough guy, but he's full of double talk. First of all, the minute he left,we ran into odd problems. He had signed us up for both major satellite providers, using our credit card, without telling us. When I called him to see what that was all about, he said he was seeing what the best deal was, blah, blah, blah, and the one we didn't take would return our money in the next month or so. I didn't think it was appropriate to charge our card without telling us. Then, we found he had signed us up for an online account with our provider, but didn't give us the username or password. which caused so many problems. I have repeatedly tried to straighten this out, have thought I got it cleared up, but it never seems to get cleared up. He also changed our password to our internet provider without giving us the new one. Also, when he did the installation, he didn't install the internet connection to the tv, and did something that has made this feature impossible. We have not been able to get this cleared up. When he did the installation, he said all this stuff about how we were so much better off with him that in dealing directly with the company because he would service "his" equipment as long as we were "his" customers (very paternalistic tone.) He also said, very offhandedly as he was leaving, "If the picture gets wonky, its fine for your husband to go up there and see if he can mess with the dial and get it clearer." Well, I recently called because the picture has grown lousy and nothing records anymore. I told him my husband had played a little with the dial but was afraid to mess with it too much. He said he couldn't believe my husband had played with the dial--this was delicate machinary that has to be handled by a professional. I'm sure he heard my chin land on the floor. He got extraordinary nasty, making it sound as if my huband turning the dial a few micrometers did irreperable damage--he even stated, "Even if the picture looks better now, he probably harmed the system." Then he said, "It will cost a hundred dollars for me to come out there." It was so disgusting. Around the same time, one of our kids left for college, and we tried moving tv's around the house a little. We made the unpleasant discovery that when Mr. Sea Star installed the satellite, he failed to turn on a certain switch that would have allowed us to move the tv's around the house.
