How to Get Refunds From Telephone Companies

Getting refunds from telephone companies isn't difficult. You need a legitimate reason to request a refund. As long as you have a good cause you can talk to customer service and request refunds. There are several instances in which this is an acceptable request.

Getting a refund from your telephone company can be easy. If you've experienced a service disruption or other act that has caused you an inconvenience you may be entitled to a refund. You need to remain calm when you call and know when to call it quits.

Call the phone company if you notice you've been overcharged. Sit down and actually go over the entire bill. Mistakes happen. Calmly call the phone company and ask for an explanation of the charges. If they don't sound valid, don't hesitate to ask for a refund. If the overcharge is for a service that you don't recognize and don't use, ask for the refund and ask for the extra service to be cancelled. If they decline, ask for an explanation as to why. You can also ask to speak with a supervisor if you don't feel that you're getting anywhere.

Keep track of service interruptions. If you have experienced an interruption for circumstances beyond your control, such as storms or network issues, you can be refunded for this. Keep in mind the refund may not be much if you were without service for only an hour. It's still worth tracking and calling when the service is available again. This is more common with landline telephone companies, but cell phones may be temporarily unavailable for a variety of reasons too.

Stay calm. No matter how aggravating the phone call becomes, you need to keep cool. Customer service departments can and will keep notes on your account. If you lose your cool once you will have a much harder time getting anything handled in the future. If the conversation gets heated, calmly ask to speak with a supervisor and take a deep breath.
