Some and maybe most people who own land interest such as surface or mineral rights do not know the details of where they are located or details necessary for decisions. In the case where a family trust owns several parcels (20 parcels more or less) of land with partial mineral interests in Oklahoma and the members are in California for example:    They pay taxes on the surface and get paid for the use of mineral interests by oil and gas producers with wells located on the lands. They do not know where most of the parcels are located and needed me to create maps so they could see the approximate location based on the recorded descriptions (also called legal descriptions). A list in spreadsheet format, aerial maps, topographic maps, and section location maps were created so that the family could better manage their land&mineral; interests.  The information you should keep on you land may include the above along with any and all "Plat of Surveys" or Boundary Survey information. If in a "subdivison" you need to obtain a full copy of the "plat" (drawing and documentation of the subdivision) for sure. Get all the documentation from the local County Clerk and get is scanned into a very easy to read and send file or set of files for your records.  You need to access/find your specific "lot" with all the dimensions including angles, distances, needed to plot and check the geometric accuracy of the record and lots nearby. Having other names that will get that listing as near to the first of the Alpha-Numeric beginning of a listing is important to profesional consulting service providers who are individuals like myself.  I do not think this blog is very affective because I have never got any feedback from anyone to confirm that anyone has taken time to read anything here. My wife keeps asking me if we are to that another snow and I said yes before the last three.  She asked again yesterday and I told her at least two more due to the climate cycles that I have noticed over the last 50 or more years.   This has not really hurt my surveying field work considering GPS and new Higher accuracy and faster mapping and information tools I use.  I do not get as much exercise due to it all except my fingers to type and run the mouse much more. Bussiness is still slow and low these days but I have adapted to keep my clients happy and keep up the quality work with low prices to those needing my services.
