Situational Awareness: Life Skills for Everyone
Going off to college, working late nights, employed in high risk professions, i.e. realtor, nurse, third shift, night manager, social worker, bank or convenience store employee all these everyday situations put you at risk. You cannot always be armed in public, however whether armed or unarmed for ultimate personal safety you must be aware of your environment. Being aware of one’s surroundings and identifying potential threats or dangerous situations is a mindset. Proper situational awareness is not something you simply get after some time as a concealed or open carrier licensee. Rather it is something that you must deliberately develop into a habit. Initially, they’re things you must think about and remember to do nearly all the time until they become unconscious behaviors. One thing that is an absolute “must do” is maintain awareness of your environment. It is a simple concept about being in tune with your surroundings. INSTINCT: TRUST YOUR GUT Human instinct is a powerful thing. How often have you heard the words “I just knew something was wrong” from both people who miraculously escaped disaster, and those who ignored their instincts and became victims? People usually can’t quantify what was wrong, just that they had a bad feeling about a person or situation. You’ve observed something out of the ordinary, even if you don’t know it. But if you suddenly feel uncomfortable or threatened, there’s probably a reason, trust your instinct and act on it. Teaching you how to act on these situations is our mission at Premier. FOCUS Be aware of the people around you, where they are in relationship to you. Are they in your personal space and placing you at a disadvantage if they are set on harming you? Be genuinely interested in what’s happening around you at all times. Actively and passively monitor the situation for your entire 360. We all do it we are on our phones, on our computers not paying attention and then it happens. Critical Casualty Care Training
erson capable of acting is the true “First Responder.” Knowing proper bleeding control techniques and other basic trauma care can potentially save a victim’s life in the minutes it may take emergency personnel to arrive on scene. 88 Tactical’s Critical Casualty Care Training classes fill the gap between combat aid and civilian EMS training. CRITICAL CASUALTY CARE TRAINING COURSES Critical Casualty Care Training I & II are 3-hour courses that include: an overview of trauma care mindset environmental hazards and treatment wound dressing bleeding control – with an emphasis on tourniquet use An injury on a shooting range motor vehicle accident child running through a plate glass door an animal bite Are all injuries that can require aggressive bleeding control to save the victim’s life. Tourniquets used to be considered a last resort, but are now at the top of the list as the recommended treatment for life-threatening bleeding from an extremity. 88 TACTICAL TRAINING COURSES All 88 Tactical training courses are built on the core concept of Reality Behavior-Based Conditioning©. 88’s courses condition an appropriate crisis response that maximizes performance while working with, instead of against, a person’s survival-oriented instincts and intuitions. Students will receive instruction and demonstration on each course topic and then be expected to perform the task under varying levels of stress. This course exposes students to visually traumatic images and artificial blood. Portions of this training include physically demanding and emotionally challenging scenarios. CRITICAL CASUALTY CARE The Critical Casualty Care Training course curriculum is based on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) core concepts. TECC is the civilian version of the military’s Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) – TECC was developed to bring combat level of care to civilian first responders. OBJECTIVES At the end of the level 2 course, students will be expected to: Explain first aid work priorities in a high-threat environment Demonstrate the following self-aid and buddy-aid techniques: Proper hemorrhage control Proper airway control Techniques for wound dressing Techniques to prevent shock PREMIER SHOOTING & TRAINING CENTER “Elite” is a word bantered around a lot in our industry.
