Helping Retirees With Insurance

When you have Medicare eligible employees who are age 65 or older leaving your business, it can be hard to advise them as to their options.  If you are unfamiliar with the Medicare marketplace, then all of the plans and letters can begin to look like another language. That's why it may be a good idea to partner with an insurance agency that specializes in Medicare supplement and Medicare Advantage insurance plans.  Just like you lean on an agency or agent who specializes in group health insurance, you may also want one that works extensively with Medicare insurance products to help your employees. There are deadlines, penalties and regulations associated with Medicare that when overlooked can cause you and your retirees a lot of unnecessary grief.  And then there are the issues of an employee working under a tight timeline and selecting an unsuitable insurance plan which can affect his or her (and spouse's) medical care going forward. We are here to help.  We work extensively in the senior markets and can easily explain the differences (and pros&cons;) of Medicare supplement insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, and prescription Part D insurance.  It does not cost you a thing to refer this business our way - we are just an outside branch of your human resources department. We can help your employees understand and select the Medicare insurance plans that best suit their needs and budget.  We will explain the different Medicare supplement and Advantage plans and also help them price and select a suitable Part D plan.  We offer an educational approach.  We want our clients (and your employees) to know what to expect from their Medicare coverage now and in the future.  And we also want them to fully understand the Annual Election Period each year and what can and cannot be done during this open enrollment window. In short, we simplify Medicare for our clients and help remove the confusion of the competing plans that are offered.  Our independent agency is not beholden to one or two insurance carriers.  We represent dozens and are happy to provide referrals in the rare times when a client needs a policy we don't happen to offer. As a human resources manager, you may know enough to be dangerous when it comes to Medicare (i.e. - your retirees need to first enroll in Medicare Part B when they separate from employment), but when it comes to supplementing Parts A&B, that's when you might need some assistance. There is a quite a bit of incorrect and simply bad information out there on the web and given in person or over the phone.  We know because we hear it every day from our clients.  Without the proper background, we find some consumers are making insurance decisions that they later regret. At Hyers & Associates, our focus is in the senior markets.  We can help those who are aging into Medicare at age 65 as well as those who are retiring past age 65.  Give us a call and we can let you know how we will help your employees. ...read more

Medicare Open Enrollment

The 2014 Annual Election Period (AEP) sometimes referred to as Medicare open enrollment begins on October 15th and runs through December 7th.  This is the time of year when Medicare beneficiaries can: Change theirMedicare Part Dcoverage Enroll in a newMedicare Advantageplan Disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare parts A&B; People also use this time to shop for new Medicare supplement insurance as well.  In most cases, the process for changing to a new Medicare supplement will be the same.  That is to say that in most cases, medical underwriting will be required. If you are thinking of shopping for new Medicare coverage, it is best to do it in the late summer/early fall.  That was you can lock in lower 2013 rates for most of 2014.  Those who wait until November of December will likely have missed out on some better rates. ...read more
