My first visit was for an alternative to my dealer's overpriced quote. Was dissatisfied with my previous mechs of late, and skeptical of the glowing reviews here. Now I am posting my own. Audra and the rest of the staff provided first-rate service and advice, then repaired with factory parts for over 25% less than dealer. Audra's savvy knowledge of business peripheral to auto repair saved me add'l big bucks. Shop has always seemed very busy when I drove past, yet remarkably tidy. This asset to my Auburndale/Murray Hill neighborhood makes an excellent first impression. I won't go anywhere else. ...read more

Brakes for Breasts, should have everyones attention! B4B
Brakes For Breasts Should Have Everyone’s Attention! This is real! This is exciting! This is probably the most important cause I’ve ever been involved in, and there’s something in it for everyone! I’ve already been able to help the breast cancer cause through the creation of a special version of my WAK A-Tire Belt line. Our breast cancer awareness buckle, on our eco-friendly recycled tire belt is a hit! Plus, the proceeds are going to help the cause, but now I get another chance and here’s the deal. Doctor Vincent Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic has made a major breakthrough with his team. They have been working vigorously on a vaccine for breast cancer! Yes! Imagine a world where breast cancer has become a thing of the past. Well, Dr. Tuohy knows it’s possible, and he and his team just found success testing this vaccine in a lab. I’ll repeat that! The test was a success! Now, they have to raise funding to bring the test to the human trial stage, and that’s where everyone wins! Brakes for Breasts, along with auto shop owners and you can make it all happen! Brakes for Breasts offers a very simple formula for any repair shop owner to adopt and run with, so naturally I wanted to get involved! As far as I know, Great Bear Auto Repair is the only shop in New York involved. During the month of October, if you go to a participating shop for a brake inspection, the inspection will be FREE! Not only will the inspection be FREE, but if you need brakes, the pads will be FREE! The only thing you pay for is labor and 10% of that goes directly to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund! I know you’re wondering what the catch is, but really that’s it! I get to do what I do best, while keeping you safe on the road, while helping to test a vaccine that was already successful in lab! You come to Great Bear Auto Repair and get your brakes inspected for FREE. Which will keep you and yours safe! If you need brakes, the pads are FREE. You only pay labor, and trust me I’m honest and fair. A portion of the labor helps a cause that’s looking to wipe out breast cancer! That’s a cause I couldn’t pass up, and a deal I hope you take into consideration! Check out the site…brakesforbreasts.wordpress.comand to learn some more about me womenautoknow.com! ...read more

Pothole? More like LANDMINE!!
Pothole? More Like Landmine! Hit a good one and damage will be done. One of the biggest dangers out there on the road has no face. They don’t drink and drive or fall asleep behind the wheel. They will certainly creep up on you, and usually not from behind! They’re potholes, and they’re adangerous bunch. People slam through them, swerve to get around them and do all kinds of dangerous things based on split second decision making. There’s no advice one can give on potholes, unless you see one coming from far enough away. In this case, you could ease up on the gas and safely drive around one of these terrible craters! Hitting a pothole can cause damage that you can see, and sometimes you would never know that there’s damage under your car from one. This can get expensive, but should be taken care of! If you hit a pothole and have any question in your head about damage…stay calm….pull over! Start by making sure there are no leaks. Then, inspect the rims and tires of your car, specifically the side walls of the tires. Do you see any bubbles, tears, cracks or dents? If you find no visual damage, get back in your car and you can take off, slowly. Roll down your windows and listen for any strange noises. Is your car handling like normal? Is your steering wheel pulling to the left or right? These are all situations you should take very seriously, and get your car to a mechanic you know and trust if you experience any of them. This will keep you, and others safer on the road...I promise. ...read more

Dashboard Warning Lights: You Auto Know What Your Car's Saying to You
SYMPTOM: A WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON When you turn on your cell phone what is the first thing you look for? Notifications, right? You immediately look for a message telling you about any missed phone calls/texts, who tweeted to you, and that post someone left on your Facebook wall— basically, you look for a memo to alert you of any changes that may have occurred between the last time you looked at your phone and now. A car’s warning lamplights are just like a cell phone’s notifications. They instantly let you know if problems have arisen in the system since the last time you drove and if that changes along the way. If a light on your dashboard stays on and you are sure that the problem indicated doesn’t need correcting. There are a few other common explanations. If a sending unit, which acts as a sensor relaying messages is damaged, than it may be displaying inaccurate information. A faulty sending unit can be fixed by replacement. It may also be as simple as a loose or disconnected electrical connector. If this is thought to be the case, all you have to do is check and repair the wiring. Or, it could be a false code that just needs rebooting, and will correct itself when you shut off your car and restart it. Warnings shouldn’t be taken lightly. They are there to protect and keep you and your family safe- whether you’re driving to work, driving the little ones to practice, or setting out on a family vacation. Even though it may seem like nothing is wrong with your car, if a warning light comes on, the best response you can have is pulling over to a safe place and finding out why. ...read more
