When you're about to enter into a consultation with your future administrative services provider, there are a few things you may want to keep in mind and topics and questions you want to be sure and bring up. Does it look like they care about how they come across to the public? Is it easy to maneuver? Are there gross spelling and/or sentence structure errors? 2. Gauge it (the chemistry). Go with your gut. Especially with telephone interviews, this can be difficult. But if you just trust in your gut, you'll never go wrong. You both need to feel like you'll be able to work together harmoniously and communicate clearly and effectively. I guarantee you'll know one way or another within 20 minutes! 3. Come to the meeting with a list of questions. Have a good handle on the administrative tasks that you'd like to offload, and first and foremost - know if you're ready to work with a virtual team! 4. Try to leave any 'control freak' tendencies at the door. This arrangement is doomed from the start if you can't trust in your provider or tend to treat them as you might a regular employee. 5. Keep an open mind! You need to realize that references and testimonials will not always be readily available, especially if the service provider/consultant is just starting their entrepreneurial venture. In cases like these, take into consideration what they've done in the corporate sector and other relevant work experience. Take note of how they put their Web site together and the professionalism (or lack thereof) they portray. 6. Be clear about fees and business structure. Working with an administrative consultant is not bargain basement shopping. Respect their fees and working schedule. There's  a lot of clutter in most of our lives. The other day, I was looking for something to wear and it occurred to me that I have so many clothes that I haven't worn in ages. Not that they were outdated or torn or stained. I just don't wear them. At the time I bought them, they seemed fine. I suppose I liked them. (More on this later.) Now they hold no charm for me. But surprisingly, the thought of throwing them out paralyzed me. Yes, I'd meant to take some old clothes to the Goodwill or some such place. After all, I grew up working class and my mother always taught me not to waste things and people were starving in China. Despite all these good intentions, I never made it there. They are taking up space and cluttering my thoughts. Oh yes, physical clutter, clutters thought which I suppose is the point of this blog. So I took the clothes by the sleeves and I am slowly and reluctantly putting them in the garbage. And the clearer my physical space is becoming, the better I feel and think. Of course, I'd heard Oprah say that if you haven't used it in a year, throw it out. But, you know, you can never follow suggestions, no matter how good they are, until you are personally ready. It's like an intervention where all of a person's friends tell them that addiction is ruining their lives. But until they have hit bottom and are ready to get clean and sober, it goes in one ear and out the other. It's hard for me to admit because I clean other peoples houses. But the fact of the matter is that I can be more effective in my own business, once I clean my own mental house, eh? The other point that I learned is about shopping for clothes. I have in the past bought stuff because it was on sale or because it seemed close to what I wanted. Now I know that if it isn't the perfect match to what I envisioned in my mind, I shouldn't get it.
