Great rental cottage on Perkins Pond in Sunapee Town. Has everything you need. Never could know from Lake Station Realty. No list of amenities online. Packed for an austere set up, because the information provided was utterly vague. Brought a ton of stuff we didn't need because there was no way to tell. Told to bring our own bedding. Only needed linen. Brought board games - dozen provided. Brought 1st aid supplies - house has that too. Would have brought charcoal to grill if it would have fit in my large SUV - not even needed with two fully functioning gas grills (who knew?) When told I was native to the area, the realtor wasn't exactly excited. Recieved unwelcome scrutiny about this - would have expected to have been more welcomed. When I picked up the key, it wasn't even knowable if there were life jackets for the boats. More than enough provided. Would have been good to know before I called in favors from local friends. Guess you have to rent to find out what you need next time. Wish I didn't have to drive 10 hours, children packed like sardines with extra stuff, to discover what a retired-on-duty realtor could have shared with minimum Internet skills. The realtor's email signature block doesn't even give the office address in Newbury. No way to pay electronically. 50% of rent due as additional security deposit, held for 7 weeks. Full rent due 30 days out. One locked shed has a door mat says "Go Away" (charming). Septic system is fragile - understandable. Note warning this, attached to wall next to toilet, is sarcastically signed "from the septic tank" (even more charming). Neighbors next door have 20+ guests on a family reunion - good for them. Lake Station Realty warned us to not have guests - "the neighbors would complain". Asked for a local area guide at the office. Couldn't have the "last one." Handed last year's copy. People running this are from Massachusetts anyways, so if you are nostalgic for that college tenant treatment from an absentee shive-a-git landlord, this is your go-to option. In sum, be ready to be made to feel like you are doing Lake Station Realty a favor by them renting to you. Recently rented a home on beautiful Lake Sunapee from this realtor. The house was NOT as advertised. The mildew and mothball smell was so bad that my mother slept in the car and my pregnant sister in law had to keep popping allergy medicine. Everyone woke up with stuffy heads and headaches and we left after one night. When we walked in the door, we tried to open up windows to air it out (literally eye watering) and most of the windows didn't open or have screens. The shower downstairs didn't work and the other ones were filthy. The bar sinks had anti-freeze come out when we turned them on. This was great because my kids were filling up squirt guns in it when we realized what was going on. The "beach" we were promised was a dirt patch covered in yard debris and the dock had come off of the hinge on one side and slammed against the part that didn't move.
