One of the persistant problems that we are asked to respond to is the presence of rotting conditions found on homes that were built 10-20 years ago. Generally this condition exists because of improper installation of vapor barriers and flashings when the home was built, but it can also be caused by lack of maintenance measures over the lifetime of the home. Sometimes there is very little evidence of the existence of these conditions. Sometimes there are tell-tales. In many cases the conditions are only discovered while we are performing other work on the homes. The repairs required to correct these conditions can range from relatively simple maintenance measures to radical reconstruction. Fortunately, the technology of finding these conditions and correcting them has advanced many times in recent years.
