Alternative Health Fair/ Shift Charlotte March 12/ Cindy Quay (Cindi)

After 25 years in corporate America, Lori Ives-Godwin left her job five years ago. A working mother, she had been having back pain and other symptoms of stress for many years, and she'd had enough. "I didn't want to continue that way forever," she said. Physical therapy didn't help as much as she'd hoped, so she searched for other therapies. She found relief through acupuncture, the Chinese art of channeling energy through the body with thin needles, and Reiki, a healing touch technique that promotes healing through stress reduction and relaxation. Still, Ives-Godwin was frustrated by how difficult it was to find reputable practitioners in the Charlotte area. "It was really hard to figure out who was here, where they were and what they were doing," she said. "It was all word-of-mouth. I'm an engineer, and that was just flat-out inefficient." So two years ago, she created a we site, www.YourCommunityConnector.com, as a clearinghouse for those who "practice in the holistic, alternative or metaphysical space." Last year, Ives-Godwin sponsored the first "SHIFT Charlotte" event to help people learn more about available therapies and therapists. The event's name refers to her desire to "shift" the way people think about health. "It's about changing the way we've been doing it and doing it in a way that makes us happier and healthier," she said. The second event will be March 12 at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. For $50, participants can attend five sessions from 10 class choices. Classes range from "Heal Your Self with Color and Sound" to "Meeting and Working with your Spirit Guides." If the topics sound unusual, Ives-Godwin admits she's trying to connect people to lesser-known practices. "I definitely push the envelope," she said. "My passion is to show people that there are other ways of doing things." When she had the flu recently, Ives-Godwin went to her regular medical doctor, who prescribed Tamiflu to ease the symptoms. But she also used other therapies. Cindy Quay (Cindi Quay), a traditional herbalist who will speak at SHIFT Charlotte, suggested elderberry cough syrup with echinacea. And Marilyn Addison, owner of Spiritual Blends aromatherapy, suggested homemade bath salts to ease aches and pains. "Instead of continuing to pop so many Advils, I was looking for other solutions," Ives-Godwin said. "We all go to the doctor when we're sick. We go to the eye doctor when we need eye glasses. But there are other people to go to when some other things happen." Subscribe to The CharlotteObserver. Why you should use Organic & Natural Skin Care Products

As we head out into a world where the options are endless of different skin care products such as: soaps, lotions, body creme's, facial creme's and so forth, which can make it overwhelming to decide what is best for your skin and budget. For many years we were boxed in to Local Chain Stores and Shopping Malls that were closer to our homes and our choices where more limited. Today we have an endless supply of online stores, boutiques, etc.. that tailor to so many choices and can leave important information out, such as chemical ingredients. It's easy to imagine a commerical online that promises soft silky skin but yet it's mainly chemical induced!!  Organic Body Products have been slowly saturating the Market/Industry for more then a decade to help you the consumer to use products that are awhole source, chemical free, cleaner and Quality assured. Research has shown that using chemical based body products causes a host of problems to not only your skin, but deeper within your body..you are what you absorb concept. ~What is Organic or Natural mean to you the consumer? Organic means grown or raised in it's natural form without chemical helpers.  For Botanicals plants, it simply means grown certified organic by strict guidelines by the FDA without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, genetic modification or irradiation. Organic skin care productslike herbal soaps, facial products, body lotions/butters & Herbal Salves, means the skin care products contain mostly organic/and or natural ingredients with virtually small amounts, if any, synthetic chemicals.  "Natural" products usually contain some natural ingredients along with higher amounts of synthetic chemicals. ~Why use Organic&Natural Skin Care Products?  Your skinis the body's largest organ and absorbs everything that gets on it.  Did you know that when you take a shower, your body absorbs as much water as when you drink a glass of water?  Organic/Natural Body Care Products are the only SAFE option.  Most Commercial skin care products like soaps, lotions&shampoos contain chemicals like parabens, petroleum, carbowax, PEGs, propylene glycol, TEAs, FD&C dyes, etc. can accumulate in our internal organs, potentially harming them and our health not to mention the chemicals we are washing down the drain into our water tables, with the harmful effects on our environment, animals & people.  ~Why put toxic chemicals onto your body when other healthy choices are available? Organic Base Oils such as Sweet Almond, Fair Trade Shea Butters, Natural Cocoa Butters, Pure Golden Jojoba all contain natural Vitamins and powerful nutrients & skin loving emolleints. Vitamin E that contains Beta, Gamma, Beta (rich in the Vitamin and not thinned out for commercial use) are such a pleasure to your skin, they absorb nicely and leave behind a softness that is natural and healthy for your skin. Finding products that use high end Essential Oils that are not "Fragrance" based also delivers anAromatherapy Benefitsto your emotional system while delivering skin healing properties. A fine example is Lavender.Fragrances have been proven to equate to allergies not to mention skin rashes and potentially arise skin disorders and age spots.Organic ingredients can raise the pH levels of dry, cracked, mature skin, help alleviate rash prone skin, moisturize your skin on a much deeper penetration then any commercial product that has chemicals such as SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) or Alcohol which is usually the 2nd or 3rd listing on the ingredients and is the most common surfactant in many skin care products that has shown strong evidence of irritations in many individuals.    Remove the Toxins from your Bathing & Body Care rituals and you will find real clean, softer healing skin! Why not take a look at Cindi's Sacred Garden, where you can find High Quality Organic & Natural Skin Care products that will not only please your senses, but delight your body & skin. Keep your bathing & skin rituals on a much healthier eco-freindly while supporting a Greener Planet!   Cindi Quay/Traditional Herbalistwww.cindissacredgarden.com ...read more
