I just received my 1st Light & water bill;just moved in on Feb.29th,bill is for 02/29-03/09 and it is $69.38 for 12 days!!!!!!!This is a small,older 2BR/1sm.bath!!!If my bill for 12 days,what in the [H] will it be for 30 days?????!!!!!!I sit between 2 super lg. homes,how in the world did they come up w this amount unless it was inseminated-guesteminated?????!!!!!!Where is the justice in this for a sen.citizen,fixed income,receiving meals on wheels&disabled at that!I call this stealing form the poor who can't do a [D] thing about it;pay-up or be without?Who are these people jacking up the price of elect.????How are we suppose to live,or do they want us old folk to just curl-up in a blanked & freeze to death or lie on the bed and have a heat stroke?????I'm so upset I just don't know what to do!!!! I cannot believe that the Columbus community has not caused in uproar over the sky high electric bill prices from columbus light and water. I know many personal contacts have complained about having the same feelings as I do. I am living in Columbus temporarily and renting a home, in a neighborhood that is clearly going down In east columbus. My rent is $750 a month for an old, outdated home and my electric bill is anywhere from $450-$650 a month. My neighbors are all of similar circumstances. The thing must appalling about this in my situation is I never have lights on, electronics on, or constantly run my heat/air. So even if the house isn't well insulated due to its age, that is irrelevant due to me not having the air or heat on anyway. I open blinds during the day, instead of having on lights, at most I will have one lamp on. I do use my computer and that is what the lady who I called on the phone at columbus light and water to question the amount of my bill said it was from. She said my bill was $500 because of my computer. One computer = 500$ a month in electricity!!!!!? Come on now, who in their right mind can even say something like that. Either she is a total idiot or she thinks I am a total idiot. The people around me are mostly working minimum wage full time jobs, paying rent around 700$ a month, and all have this outrageous electric bill on top of that. How are people supposed to afford this? Remember all the other bills that need to be paid on top of that. While the light and water company is making 2.5 million a year with only 9 employees, who I'm sure don't make very much more than minimum wage, as they shouldn't for a low skill level job; that leaves the owner to be taking in over a million a year, while he is keeping the rest of us down. I'm not in Mississippi any longer unless I go to visit my son or pass through to tell MY story in women's and chilrens shelters or supporting AUTISM awareness.
