Read the contract you only have arbitration as means os settlement - provided you can get them to respond. The work was amaturish and not completed. Make sure you have all work to be done in writing before they begin. Do not hand over any money until you have it all in writing. I reccomend using anothet contactor. ...read more

SAS Basement Waterproofing

Very impressed with SAS! I hired them to fix our sinking foundation. It was decided that the best course of action would be to install helical piers to stabilize the foundation. I was sold once they told me they install the piers themselves; no sub-contracting out the work. Everyone from the sales person to the laborers were extremely responsive to all of my inquiries and concerns throughout the entire process. They gave me a time-frame of when the work would start and be completed (weather permitting, of course) and they stuck to that schedule. The clean-up upon completion of the job was thorough. I feel that I received top-notch service and work for an extremely fair price. I would not think twice of recommending SAS to anyone looking for impeccable service and quality workmanship. ...read more

Modulating furnace improves on 4 efficiency ratings

Efficiencies of heating equipment are determined by two measures. 1. The operating efficiency during the on cycle. 2. The heat loss through the exhaust pipe and equipment jacket during the off cycle. The longer the equipment remains in operation and the shorter the off cycle, the greater the efficiency; simply put.The temperature of air is determined by the rate of movement between the atoms and molecules within the properties of the air which creates energy. The higher rate of movement - the greater amount of energy - the warmer the temperature. Warmer air will give up its energy to cooler air, thus hot goes to cold. Another way of looking at it is the slower moving molecules in cooler air will always seek out and absorb the faster moving molecules in warmer air in an attempt to equalize. Now that we got the wheels in your brain rolling, Einstein, let's continue. An important factor that determines your bodies comfort level in your home during winter is what's called stratification. Stratification of air is — unmixed air within a confined space that is separated into thermal layers due to temperature variations. Your mind does not know that stratification is occurring around you, but your body knows because it feels the chill created by stratification. Simply put, stratification is the difference of air temperature in the room trying to equalize, thus creating an undetectable air movement over your skin which in turn creates evaporation of moisture on the surface of your skin, hence the chill. Respectfully, it's not the room temperature that gives you the chill; it's the evaporation of the moisture on the surface of your skin.OK Yogi, with this information, you are now smarter than the average bear, so let's continue. The average temperatures exiting the register during heating season is 120˚, and let's say the outside temperature is 28˚. These two temperature differences will try to equalize, but the insulation in the wall will slow it down or better known as it will create a "Resistance", but regardless the two temperature differences will try to equalize. My point here is that the greater the temperature difference the faster the rate of transfer between the inside temperature of your home and the outside temperature regardless of the insulation value in the wall. Therefore, Air infiltration and exfiltration increase as the difference between inside and outside temperature (ΔT) becomes larger. When superheated air from a furnace or baseboard heater flows against relatively cold exterior walls, the increased temperature differential results in a stack effect that draws cold air into the house through any cracks, and of course through the insulation in the wall. If your still with me, that's great. Now let's get down to the meat of the matter and bring all this together for the greater good of mankind.  The operating characteristic of all conventional forced air furnaces are short operating cycles at high temperature output. This has been the norm since the forced air furnace was created back in the early 1900's. The high temperature output has always created an undesirable infiltration, exfiltration and stratification within the comfort of our homes, and we just accepted it because the alternative cost 3 to 4 times more to install (Hot water radiant heat) which is the most ultimate heating system available. The Luxaires' modulating furnace operating characteristics are unlike that of conventional furnaces by way of long operating cycles at low temperature outputs which come very close to resembling the operating characteristics of a radiant heating system. Here's the Pro's in what this new way of forced air heating can do for your comfort and your homes ability to retain more of its heat.1. The lower temperature output means a lower discharge temperature at the register which means a lower temperature difference in respect to the outside temperature, thus there is less heat loss (infiltration and exfiltration).2. Stratification is reduced to almost nothing because at lower discharge temperatures the stacking of thermo layers within the home is almost none existent. The longer operating cycles also play a role in eliminating the thermo layers by improving temperature stability throughout every room in the home.3. The longer operating cycles also means the humidifier will be operating longer as well to moisten the air in your home which in turn eliminates the chill created by evaporation of moisture from the surface of your skin because the humidity level of the air becomes equal to that of your body. The shorter operating cycles of conventional furnaces have always created a problem with humidifier operating times. These furnaces never operated long enough to allow the humidifier to fully perform its duties.4. A value of energy consumption rarely spoken about is the amount of natural gas consumed at the beginning of an "on" cycle before the blower comes on. The burners run for 30 to 45 seconds then the blower is energized. Therefore, the conventional furnace with its short cycles at high outputs runs 2 to 3 times more cycles, in any given day, than the furnace with long cycles at low outputs, which results in the conventional furnace consuming greater amounts of gas (to bring the heat exchanger up to temperature) because of the higher number of cycles. To conclude, The Luxaires' modulating furnace improves four types of efficiencies that exist in every home today in the snow belt of America. Not only has Luxaires' modulating furnace earned a (1) 97% efficiency rating because of its longer operating cycles and shorter off cycles in conjunction to its lower temperature out puts, it also increases the (2) efficiency of the homes ability to retain its heat; also, improves the (3) efficiency of temperature stability throughout every room in the home; and it improves the (4) efficiency output of the humidifier. In my personal opinion,"What the hell took so long!" I take my hat off to honor these guys for paying attention to detail. ...read more
